Did you know that without animals being used for testing, we would not be able to use cosmetic items safely? Even is they were safe there would be no way we would know that at anytime out face or body would break out with a rash. There has been a HUGE controversy over testing animals. My first reason is testing animals helps put an end to human suffering. According to an article on Controversy of Animal Testing, "It is preferred that animals suffer as opposed to a human, with the aim of reducing human suffering." I agree that without knowing if a cosmetic would be safe would create more human suffering. Without knowing if a chemical could kill you or physically harm you or not would a really bad thing. And think about it if animals weren't our "test dummies" then we could be washing our face with a face cleanser and our skin could just come off, or we could get really sick from chemicals. …show more content…
Also, an article on Procon.org says "the AWA (the Animal Welfare Association) only defines an animal as a dog, cat, monkey, guinea pig, hamster, rabbit, and other warm blooded animals.
Except the AWA excludes birds, rats, and mice bred for research, cold blooded animals, and farm animals used for food purposes." this is because we use those animals to survive. If we didn’t have cows to eat, we wouldn’t have a lot of food. Rats and mice are almost the only animals who are tested. people feed these things to snakes for heavens sake! How is testing animals any crueler than
that?
I know that most people disagree with me, but here's a reason why I believe this. According to the article by Ian Murnaghan," Animals and humans are never exactly the same." Some scientists say the reaction from a drug in a humans body is quite different from an animal. I have used many different cosmetic items and I have never used one that made me look anything like those animals. So this must mean the tests work right? Having the animals suffer so we don’t have chemicals do that to us is really a blessing
So, in conclusion these are the reasons I believe animal testing for cosmetic use should continue to be legal. Yes, I know some animals are harmed, but I believe using mice and rats keeps the human kind safer. Without this testing there would really be no way to test cosmetics for safety. Thank you!
