Cosmetic Animal Testing
MAKEUP! What some of the girls/boys would say is art on your face or body. For housewifes, what is cleaning without the right cleaning liquids and sprays? But have you ever wondered, how are these products safe around my skin and family? The answer is animal testing. In this case is cosmetic animal testing..”Every year, over one hundred million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year”(11 facts). “It’s said that an animal dies in a laboratory every three seconds. Those in favor of animal experimentation say they’re taking animals’ lives to save humans”(11 facts). Let's be honest is this really necessary to have animals be tortured through painful experiments? Is it right to end an animal’s life while simply testing on some lipstick …show more content…
or dishwasher soap? Cosmetic animal experimentation, maybe brings good information to be safe, but is it good to end a poor animal’s life?
What did they ever do to us? Testing on animals has become a frequent daily routine for these poor animals. Rats, mice, guinea pigs, and bunnies suffer from these inhumane unnecessary tests everyday, not only in the us but in other countries around the world. Other than that we are the one’s paying for it with taxes! These tests aren’t cheap at all, some of them cost more than a heart surgery on a human! Would you like supporting this cruelty?
The Torture Chamber By now you maybe asking; What are these tests? What products are these animals tested for? How bad and harmful are these tests to animals? Well picture this we all have five senses ;sight, taste, smell, sound and touch. Let’s start with sight, Eye irritation/ corrosion test usually made for products such as; eyeliners, mascara, eyelash glue, eye drops and eye contact solution along with eye contacts. For this test rabbits are the main victims with this test, this tests seeks for eye irritation and eye corrosion (poisoning of the eye), to see if it's reversible or not. It may sound helpful but the procedure is the worst. It starts with clamping and tying down
the rabbit to a lab table so it won't run away, once the rabbit is secure and in place with no movement at all, an eye drop is filled with a chemical then that chemical is dropped into the rabbit's eye which haves a reaction in less than a minute. Rabbits end up rather blind or dead by the end of each eye test. Moving on to taste sense, in this case tests made orally for the rats it goes bad for them this time. Main products for this test are; mouth wash, chemicals used for artificial flavors, chemicals used for process foods, toothpastes and teeth whitening products. The Acute oral toxicity test is made for to find out what would happen if a chemical that wasn't meant to be swallowed by a human and what the reaction and cure would be for it. Rats are held tightly with one hand and have the chemical shoved down their throats, the reaction to the rat is most likely death or seizures. Now the smell test, again with the rats are put through a test called the acute inhalation toxicity test. Products for this test would be any product that can be inhaled while using such as; perfume, body sprays, deodorants, cologne and hair spray. With the procedure itself this one does not use any type of force but it is still cruel. One rat is placed in a tube where they have enough space to move or where they can barely move, this tube the rat is in it’s connected to a hose, the hose blows in a chemical for the rat to ihale. For the rats their reactions are; nosebleeds, paralysis, seizures and the most common death of suffocation. Sound is what keeps most animals alive but by doing the Toxicokinetics test it resolved to them being deaf sometimes even the chemical travels its way to the brain. This procedure is meant for to find out mostly on any ear medicines, this test is done on rats and or mice. The touch is equal to the animal’s skin
