Persuasive Essay: Product Testing on Animals Should be Banned An estimated 26 million animals are used every year in the United States fir various types of testing. These animals are used for scientific and commercial testing to develop medical treatments, determine toxicity of medications and chemicals, check the safety of products destined for human use and other biomedical or healthcare purposes. This testing on animals is cruel, inhumane and should be banned. It should be banned because the animals are held and live in inhumane conditions, it is harmful and at times lethal to the animals and there are other research method available that do not require animal testing. The living conditions of these animals are less than ideal. More than 95% of animals used in experiments are not protected by the Federal Animal Welfare Act (FAWA). A common procedure that these animals are subject to is the Draize eye test. This test is used to evaluate irritation due to cosmetics, shampoos etc. During this procedure, the test animal (most commonly a rabbit) is held in stocks and left with clips on their eyes to hold them open after the product has been dropped into their eyes. The animal is left like this for hours, even days to watch for irritation. These animals held in labs are subject to force feedings, force inhalations, food and water deprivation and prolonged physical restraints against their will.
In addition to inhumane living conditions, test subject animals are subject to painful and at times lethal procedures. Animals are often inflicted with burns and other wounds to study the healing process. The scientists also use this opportunity to observe how certain products such as drugs and ointments aid or harm the healing process. In a 2010 report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) it was reported that 97,123 animals used for product testing suffered pain during testing while given no anesthesia for pain. An

Every year since the 20th century, researchers have been conducting toxicity tests on millions of animals to estimate the safety of products and chemicals before it is available for human use. Animals such as cats, dogs, mice, monkeys, and several other species are placed in artificial environments, like laboratories and medical schools to possibly undergo surgeries or other procedures. Scientists use animals to test chemicals, medicines, cosmetics, and many more products. They suffer from pain, torment, and loneliness every day. Most animals actually die a few short weeks after the testing. The point of the product testing is to test the product…

Right now, millions of mice, rats, rabbits, cats, dogs, and other animals are locked inside cold, barren cages in laboratories across the country. “For days they languish in pain, ache with loneliness and long to roam free and use their minds” (PETA). These animals come from a wide variety of places such as city pounds, zoos, commercial breeders, and even circuses. Did you know that around the world these animals are being used to test products ranging from shampoo to new cancer drugs? In fact almost every medical treatment that you use has been tested on animals. For instance, animals were used to develop anesthetics (AnimalPort). All they can do is sit and wait in fear of the next terrifying and painful procedure that will be performed on them. “The stress, sterility and boredom causes some animals to develop neurotic behaviors such incessantly spinning in circles, rocking back and forth and even pulling out their own hair and biting their own skin” (PETA). Believe it or not animal testing is not required by law, animal testing is only done to protect companies from consumer lawsuits (Zoomshare). Animal testing…

Animal testing, is also known as animal experiments in the act of using non-human animals in research, to develop projects or scientific experiments. Statistics show that each year, there are millions of animals such as cats, dogs, mice, rats, ferret, hamsters and monkeys that experience mental and physical torture due to scientific research. Although most people agree that animal testing is horrible and cruel, there are few who this is it necessary to find new medicines. During the experiments, the animals are forced to inhale or sallow large amounts of test substances. Which are often found to be poisonous and toxic. The largest concern, is that animals are being used in experiments and not humans. Meaning that the results might or might not be useful for all the humans. Million of animals are suffering from poor conditions of living, and then to…

Throughout history animals have been used to test everyday products and medicine to make sure they are safe for human consumption. The animal’s everyday life consist of torture, sleeping in cold cages, and often sometimes dying from the painful experiments performed on them. At times the animals are harmed so much that the start to show signs of erratic behavior like scratching their eyes out, biting themselves, and go through stages of stress or depression. After all the research is completed the animals are killed and thrown into medical waste. In todays the abuse continues. Numerous amounts of rabbits, rats, mice are being held in science laboratories across the world. Countless number of researchers believe that the only way to verify that…

There are a lot of bad things that happen in this world and Animal Testing is one of them. Doctors,Scientists and other people test on these animals everyday. In my opinion there should be no animal testing at all. It is cruel. Right now there are millions of animals sitting in cold cages waiting for their next painful procedure. The stress, sterility and boredom causes them to develop neurotic behaviors such as, biting themselves and running around in circles. Most of these animals are killed after the testing because there is no possible way for them to live after this has happened. More than 100 million animals suffer this torture. Exact numbers have not been found, in rats, mice, birds, and cold blooded animals take up about 90 percent.…

Each year, millions of animals suffer and die in the process of inhumane testing for the purposes of drug and chemical research, and medical experiments and training exercises. Animals including cats, dogs, rabbits, and mice are force fed harmful substances that are infected with lethal viruses causing reactions like brain damage, strokes, and heart attacks. Not only are these experiments painful to the animals and sometimes fatal, but also they fail to accurately reflect human reactions and are not required by the FDA.…

Imagine a rabbit stuffed into a steel cage that is only twice its size. Imagine the rabbit’s eyes clamped open while animal researchers drop different liquids into its eyes or shaves its back, cuts it open, and examines its body before killing it. People in the research labs and stuff the animals into cages and physically abuse them. In some cases, the researchers burn, starve, and physically abuse animals in the testing labs. Experiments similar to these happen to millions of helpless animals all around the world every year. Although many people believe that testing on animals for safe and effective medical products is a necessary evil, the Federal Government should ban medical testing on animals.…

Animals are broadly experimented on to test the safety of cosmetics, household products, medical devices/medicines, and a vast list of chemicals and pesticides. The most common animals that fall victim to testings are rabbits, mice, and rats. Rabbits are bred in facilities purposely to be tested on, every year at least 205,482 are killed due to being involved in experiments. Mice and rats combined have a death toll of approximately 100 million annually in U.S. laboratories. Rabbits frequently undergo two common tests known as the Draize eye test and the skin corrosive tests, mainly because these creatures are targeted for how easy and mild-tempered they are while being handled. In the Draize eye tests, the rabbits are often held or strapped down while an experimenter will place a dripper above the rabbit’s eyes and drip cosmetics, dishwashing liquids and drain cleaner into their sensitive corneas. “If a product is likely to get into a consumer’s eye, tests are conducted on the eyes of rabbits to learn whether it would be harmful, or how much of it would be harmful, to a human” (Pringle 49). After the rabbit has been unwillingly ravaged with chemicals, it’s placed back in a cage where the experimenter will watch as the painful reaction takes place.…

For instance, many animals are hurt, tortured, and sometimes killed while tests are performed on them. “Animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing process, the infliction of pain to study its effects and remedies, and "killing by carbon dioxide asphyxiation, neck-breaking, decapitation, or other means" (Humane Society International, "About Animal Testing," hsi.org (accessed Oct. 15, 2013)). These are some of the many ways animals are hurt during the process of animal testing. It’s sad and cruel that people do this to animals. Overall, animal testing is an evil, harsh thing to do innocent…

The use of animals to test human drugs and cosmetic products and to conduct pointless laboratory experiments is unconventional. Humans and animals are similar, but they are not identical, so using animals to test products intended for humans does not make sense. Each year millions of animals are killed or badly maimed in laboratory experiments. Animal testings must be banned. The tests are usually proven to be ineffective, they waste tremendous amounts of money, the tests are cruel, and there are other ways to test drugs and cosmetic products.…
