Armand's Lack Of Communication

Now this conversation may not display the qualities of a well-communicating couple, but who are we to judge based off of one observation? Armand Goldman owns a drag club; of which he lives above with his partner Albert. His son Val is visiting, whom he had during a one night stand with a woman named Katherine 20 years prior. Armand seems to have a difficult time communicating and therefore can’t keep his relationship with Albert stable. He and Albert fight constantly; Armand even drives him away in the process. Throughout their relationship portrayed in the film, they seem to communicate without a clue of how to handle themselves, and in the next scene they communicate exceptionally. Armand would rather deceive his partner rather than tell him something that might upset him. Whether it be lying about seeing his son Val or lying about having Val’s fiancé’s parent’s over; lying is as easy as breathing for Armand. Yes, this displays a trait of compassion, but in the end it’ll do more harm than good. A successful and solid relationship does not involve falsehood and deceit, comparatively a solid and stable relationship should have two partners willing to be open and honest with each other. According to the Professional Counseling website and its article on Common Relationship Problems, a lack of communication of important matters, or lying about general important things to a relationship are common troubles that the average couple will face during their relationship. To save the relationship Armand should stop lying, in return Albert should also stop assuming the worst out of him and being overly dramatic before and after the truth comes out.
