Ashton Kutcher
Ashton Kutcher plays an indian character by the name of “Raj”. In the commercial, Raj is portrayed as a bollywood indian wearing a lavish costume. The accent is what sets the icing on the cake, others have called it a “poor imitation”. Ashton kutcher portraying Raj has received a huge backlash through social media like twitter and facebook. In my opinion, I agree with popchips’ response towards the Raj promotion. Popchips’ had no intention stereotyping or offending the indian race. Popchips’ later removed Raj from advertising and was never mentioned again. I considered these tactics inadequate, because popchips’ made a statement that they had no intentions of making racist remarks then proceeded to trash the Raj concept. Popchips should've stuck with what they said and let the hate die out. If I was the marketing manager, I would like Ashton Kutcher speak on the behalf of Popchips and try to ease the tension of those labeling the portrayal of Raj racist. …show more content…
A great idea would be different people of age, race, gender and background conveying a strong and meaningful message. One should be aware that they should stay away from creating a popchips’ scandal. The creators of the movie have failed to understand one's culture. Thus resulting in backlash and possibly a boycott in movie

In the first video entitled “Ashton Kutcher Dating Video”(Popchips), Ashton Kutcher is a white male who has the privilege to take on multiple identities. He plays five different bachelors who are seeking romance. One of the bachelors is Indian and four are white males who are given completely different identities despite being straight male bachelors. In the commercial it is important to note the “World Wide lovers” message that is shown, which shows its aim is to be heard by the entire world. The first bachelor by the name of Raj is Kutchers Indian impersonation. He has an Indian accent and is shown wearing traditional Indian attire. He is also an producer of Bollywood which is an Hindi Language film producer. The second bachelor is Nigel who Ashtor portrays as a Rastafarian white male with dreads. The third bachelor is Darl whose age is unknown; which, and very good at expressing himself gives off a female stereotype of a mysterious and feminine attribute of “never ask a women her age”. His hair is also dyed platinum blond, and appears to have a suppose diva like attitude. He also bends the gender binary by appearing to express interest in money, implying that he may be a gold…

Culture is an integral part of the human experience and it highlights the fascinating differences in both individuals and groups of people. One can only imagine the kind of peaceful existence we would know if we were all aware and respectful of each other's cultural values, but like many things in life, it's easier said than done. The values and norms of one cultural group may be admirable in the sight of another, while simultaneously offend the members of the next subculture. Clear communication is a great way to experience and learn about another culture without causing excess conflict.…
