I knew that my journey as an international student was going to be difficult, but I took on the challenge. I wanted to study in the United States because the quality of education is higher than in Panama. I believe that education is highly important and I need it to provide a better future for my family. I studied two years in the FSU Panama campus and earned a scholarship to study my last two years in the Tallahassee campus with in-state tuition. My first semester in the Tallahassee campus was hard for me because I needed to adapt to a new culture and I wanted to meet new people. As an international and transfer student, it was even harder to meet new people. I knew that I needed to step out of my comfort zone and decided to join student organizations. I pledged for Alpha Kappa Psi, the largest and oldest business fraternity, because I wanted to be prepared professionally for life after graduation. I admired the brothers of Alpha Kappa Psi because they were very easy to talk to, confident, had many work experiences, and worked hard toward their goals. I knew that I wanted to be surrounded by motivated and passionate people, just like me. I was inducted in the fraternity after a semester of hard work. I joined other organizations that were aligned with my interests such as the Crossfit Club, Operation Smile, and the American Marketing Association. I applied to become a Mock Interview Mentor at the Career Center and was offered the position. With this position, I was able to help students prepare for their interviews and to eventually, land their dream jobs. I received students' cover letters and resumes and tailored specific questions for them, making the interview experience as real as possible. I taught students how to market themselves since interviews are an opportunity to sell yourself to the employer. After our interviews, I noticed that students felt much more confident and appreciated this opportunity offered by the Career Center. Previously, I had another internship with the National Council on Disability at the Republic of Panama in the Public Relations department. I assisted the department with press releases and created a marketing plan, which goal was to include people with disabilities in society. I learned how to work under pressure and how to reach goals with my team.
