Assault Weapons Persuasive Speech
Do people want their children to grow up in an unsafe world? The world that their children will grow up in will not be safe at all. This is because assault weapons can be placed in the hand of mentally unstable people. Their children could be in school one day and a school shooting may happen and their child could possibly die. People could be walking around in a store and somebody with an assault weapon could come in and kill a ton of those people. That can all be changed by putting a ban on assault weapons. Assault weapons should be banned in the United States.
First, while putting this ban on assault weapons imagine about how many lives would be saved and how many people would still be here if assault weapons were already banned. Just to think about the fact that if assault weapons had been banned the Tucson and california party shooting would not have happened and their would be about twenty more lives on this earth(Lupica). School shootings would not have happened like the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school. Mike Lupica, an author of multiple books for teens, agrees with banning assault weapons when he states, “Any fool knows that Lanza couldn't possibly have killed as many children as quickly as he did on the morning

Some will say that the pre existing ban of 1994 on assault did not work well and more guns were manufactured during the ban than before(Rhee). A response to that would be that stricter gun laws would be enforced if a ban were to be put on assault weapons. Also guns would be confiscated from people who owned them during the ban. Another response for people who do not want assault weapons banned would be that gun manufacturers would just change certain things on the gun(Rhee). Also, people would say that the gun itself would be banned and if they were to make changes then bullets would not shoot quickly or

The Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 was never able to truly ban assault weapons because it did not ban actual weapons, rather it banned cosmetic and ergonomic aspects found commonly on firearms intended for recreational purposes as well as assault weapons. Such aspects as a bayonet mount, a pistol grip protruding conspicuously beneath the stock and folding or collapsible stocks were addressed while rate of fire or power of the round fired were not. While the frequency of "drive-by bayonettings" dropped dramatically, the sale of true assault weapons did not. Common shotguns and deer rifles were being pulled from the shelves because of a pistol grip or folding stock while rifles capable of firing 30 high velocity rounds in 30 seconds were being sold in unrestricted amounts because they did not have the banned cosmetic aspects. This fact alone made the ban ineffective.…

Currently the ban on assault rifles got out voted and is not a main issue, now what is still open and active is trying to take away any magazine for any weapon that holds greater than ten rounds. I am an avid and advanced gun shooter and owner, I believe that if that will make people happy taking away magazine capacity then let them. Taking that away will not stop shooting and or violence in any way through my eyes is useless. I do feel that the common weekend shooters do not need such huge magazine capacity and will help to possible limit damages done during a hostile shooting. Also the other main issue that I feel will help in the gun world and that should be enforced is a greater and more in depth background check than the current one that…

Firstly as someone who has owned and used many firearms for many years it bothered me greatly how many people seemingly thought that by prohibiting the ownership of these particular firearms that there would be a reduction in gun violence when there is no empirical data to support that claim. Over the previous two years there have been two mass shootings in Aurora, Colorado and Newtown, Connecticut which caused uproar in the political climate surrounding these firearms. The argument proposed against these firearms was an emotionally charged one that targeted these rifles in particular because of the fact that they can possess higher capacity magazines and that they have cosmetic features that can resemble military style weapons. The argument was that these firearms are more lethal and that in the hands of the wrong person can cause greater devastation than other firearms however the proposed ban conveniently failed to mention that less than 2% of all firearm crimes are committed with rifles and let alone “assault rifles” and that of this 2% many are self-inflicted. Another is that the biggest mass shooting in the United States wasn’t even with an “assault rifles” or even a rifle, it was with a pistol.…

But when the first assault weapons ban was approved outlawing 19 specific weapons it was a very different time.…

They claim that assault weapons are the reason we have many murders in the country when there was a 19.3% higher when there was a ban on assault weapons in effect. When assault weapons are talked about most bring the AK-47 which is a weapon that has been illegal in the united states for decades unless it was made back around the time of World War II. The other weapon that is brought up is the AR-15 that is most commonly used for marksman competitions, training and home defense that is owned by over 8 million U.S. citizens currently. All assault weapons have to be semi-automatic in the country meaning to fire the weapon you have to pull the trigger over and over again and it cannot be fired automatically. This precaution is used to prevent murders and mass shootings and is used in every legal gun. Clips and magazines are also being limited to the point that you can efficiently defend yourself with them. They are being limited to 7 bullets in New York because of the New York SAFE Act. Which is stated to not be enough to stop a possible threat even by policemen in New…
