Birth To 1 Year
Physical
They learn to clap their hands, lift their heads and co-ordinate their hands and legs to crawl and roll over, or maybe to pull them selves up to a standing position or maybe walk.
Gradually gaining strength in arms and legs and also growing in length.
Will be able to sit unsupported.

Intellectual / Cognitive
Babble and smile at people they recognise, cry when they are hungry and tired or uncomfortable i.e. Nappy needs changing.
Uses a gesture if to ask for anything they see.

Communication
They learn to cry to be able to communicate.
They recognise speech from people they are most frequently with and learn to understand the meaning of some words.
They also pick up non-verbal communication by learning to wave

Social, Behavioural and Moral
Becoming social with close family and friends.
Respond to voices and faces of parents and friends to who they are most frequently with.
Is not capable of sharing any toys.
Will want to explore when they have learnt how to crawl or roll.
They are sociable with anyone who pays them any attention.

Emotional
They learn how to cry by way of communication, when they are upset or tired.
They develop separation anxiety when separated from their parents / carers.

1 to 3 Years
Physical
They become more confident with walking and talking and begin to jump and climb.
Becoming more active helps to loose the baby fat.
They grow taller.
They learn to drink from a cup or straw and eat with a knife and fork.

Intellectual
Learning disabilities become more noticeable if a child has no interest in learning or reading a book.
Aspergers syndrome and Autism is also more noticeable if they are not communicating or being social.

Communication
Learning more vocabulary and being able to put words together.
To be able to speak more clearly.
They begin to listen to what you are saying and be able to repeat what you say.
