The first one was with Mrs. Wemberly (s/p colon resection surgery) asking for attention. Instead of sending Mark to check on the patient, she decided to check on her that resulted to a better outcome after she talked to the patient about the diet. This instance showed that Janice prioritized and valued her patient first over the scheduled meeting with the VP. Even though the VP was not happy with her being late for the meeting, she was able to voice out once again the issues compromising the safety of both the patient and the employee. The VP had hesitancy about taking an action to the issues, but after Janice offered her solution, he complimented her for bringing up the issues. This time, Janice advocated on behalf of the patients and employees to protect their safety. In the meantime, the doctor was pleased with Janice’s diet instructions that Mrs. Wemberly remembered to follow after she received the wrong food tray. If Janice granted the patient’s request to the solid foods then Janice had probably made her sick and extended her stay in the hospital.
