Thanks for all you've done in accommodating me with this nightmare. Moreover, I'm blessed. I can't stop thanking God and you! For some apparent reason, I did not see the letter grade (C). However, I'm lost for words. On the other hand, I feel stupid because of all the emails prior to discovering the letter grade. I'm apologetic and I thank you for considering my plea.…

People with Tourette Syndrome have two kinds of tics. Motor, or vocal tics. Motor tics are movements, hand shaking, blinking, shaking, etc. Vocal tics are sounds, throat clearing, squeaking, humming etc. All tics are involuntary, meaning that you can’t control them, which could get you in social trouble, if your tic looks voluntary, kissing, pinching, etc. People with Tourette also have low amounts of dopamine in their brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter which controls movement.…
The week was a rollercoaster. We had many aspects go accordingly. However, we also had some issues this week. The week has also been exciting because I was given a new responsibility in the classroom. Intervention was scheduled to start on Monday. Unfortunately, due to the two hour delay we began intervention on Tuesday. I was nervous starting it. The three students in my group need help with letter identification and letter sounds. The students are engaged and interested in coming to our room for a few minutes in the morning.…
Medications are supposed to save lives; however, as with all things that are not used sensibly, they end up killing individuals more frequently than not when they are misused. It is not only illegal drugs that kill; even the drugs that are prescribed have the capacity to become harmful when they are not used as they are intended to be used. While people know that crack, heroin and other illegal drugs lead to death in the event of an overdose, they are not aware of several others that are comparatively unknown, but just as harmful. Here are 10 medicinal drugs you didn't know could kill you.…
1. Attention-getter: Would you ever consider taking a pill that makes you actually focus on getting your school work done even if you weren’t officially prescribed to it?…
Sam is a nine-year-old boy who has just entered the third grade. While his classmates listen to directions, he is constantly fidgeting and cannot seem to sit still. He consistently receives poor marks for both conduct and academics, as he grasps the concepts of easy tasks long after his peers. Sam will frequently blurt out comments at inappropriate times, interrupting the flow of classroom instruction. Because of this, his behavior is detrimental not only to himself, but to the other children in his class as well. His teacher is showing concern and has been advising Sam’s parents that he should see a learning disabilities specialist because she is under the impression that he may have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Sam’s parents, who want him to receive the support he needs, are hesitant, however, to take him to see a physician because they fear that he will be prescribed medication. They are aware that stimulants are often authorized for children, but believe they are too harmful and that other forms of treatment would be less dangerous. Do Sam’s parents have a right to be apprehensive about the use of stimulants in children diagnosed with ADHD? Or are they just simply uneducated and misinformed about this method?…
A special student. In the first hour and a half of our first day of school I saw clearly that James had the classic symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). He was inattentive, lacked concentration, stared into space, was impulsive and hyper. When James' mother arrived to pick him up after school, we talked about his behavior. She informed me that James had indeed been diagnosed with ADHD but was not taking any type of medication because the family just couldn't afford it. I realized that something had to be done; I couldn't ignore his behavior, hope for the best and basically let this little boy fall through the cracks for the next nine months of school.…
Today is the first Friday back from vacation in January. You have been advised that Quan, a new child to the program, will be in your class on Monday. His parents have called and asked that you return their call to discuss how you will be helping Quan acclimate to the program, and what they can do to help him make friends and feel comfortable. On the same day you find out that Quan (from the previous situation) is coming to school, you are informed that Ashley, who has cerebral palsy, will be joining your class on Tuesday. You are told that she shakes and stutters. Your program supervisor wants to know what you will do to help her adjust and become part of your classroom.…
I replied that I was uncomfortable with the approach because Matthew adores his teacher and it was not my intention to ruin the relationship over homework which he has always found difficult. I decided to speak to Matthew's teacher, Mr. Washerman, after the meeting while waiting to pick up the children from school. I explained that I was an instructional assistant who worked with children who had behavior difficulties and had found some successful strategies for doing less than desirable work. He agreed that I can modify homework as I see fit as long as Matthew is practicing his vocabulary and math. I must admit it was a pleasure meeting him and I am great full for his understanding. However, I found Mrs. Plack's aforementioned conduct during this meeting out of line and her lack of preparedness a bad reflection on the special education department within Marlbrough elementary school. Consequently, this is not how I wished to start the 2016-2017 school year, but I feel if not addressed immediately that this conduct would continue throughout the school year. Ultimately I believe this would lead to Matthew's education becoming negatively impacted due to the unscrupulous behavior and lack of professionalism displayed in this…
A debate has risen over the past ten years, questioning the fact of doctors over diagnosing ADHD medication to children and adults. Attention deficit disorder is a range of behavioral disorders occurring in children and adults, including such symptoms as poor concentration, hyperactivity, and impulsivity to say the least. There has been an alarming increase of diagnosis and treatment for attention deficit disorder, this has people writing articles and performing studies to show the pro and cons that both support and oppose the increase of diagnosis.…
As we discuss my observations, without bringing up the dreaded acronym, my wife (we are not yet divorced) started sharing her observations and confirming mine. She began to share those of our daughter’s teacher, from the daily reports, and a recent conversation. The teacher feels we should have her evaluated privately, outside the school system, so we may advocate for appropriate services. The current program the school system offers will not meet our daughter’s needs as her grades are excellent (another thing she and I share). Relieved my conclusions were being affirmed, I encouraged my wife to seek those evaluations out, but I reminded her on my stance of being anti-medication for…
Lets be honest here, taking drugs to improve performance isn’t a spur-of-the-moment mistake, its a well planned and thought out way of cheating. It’s not like they are sold over the counter at your local chemists (or are they?)…
The truth is, while I’d like to think that I’ve always strived for a stellar academic record, it has been difficult until most recently when I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Therefore, my academic record and test scores do not reflect my true ability and potential. A partial reason for this shortcoming is because of the fact that I went through most of high school with undiagnosed Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Since my diagnosis, my ability to focus on my academic needs and to apply myself has improved greatly. Although I have been diagnosed and properly treated now, some of my past grades have not reflected my true ability to succeed. Therefore, I consider having ADD as one of my weaknesses and also one of my strengths.…
