This program provides jobs and housing for illegal immigrants, while also giving Americans a new cultural experience and language. While Cuban girls are working, they are learning American English and teaching the host family their native tongue. Cuban girls will receive free college education, and during their stay they begin the immigration process. Education is paid by donations and American taxpayers.
Many government officials might disregard the program stating it’s potential to encourage illegal immigration; however, this program prevents the American taxpayers’ dollar from funding deporting immigrants. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine states, “[o]ver the long term, the impacts of immigrants on government budgets are generally positive at the federal level…” Not only does immigration save America’s money, but it also promotes immigration which provides jobs in the states.
The Au Pair Project encourages assimilation, whilst still being involved in one’s own culture. Many come to America to find and a new home and create their version of the “American Dream.” America thrives on diversity; when it becomes difficult for people to migrate to the states America will go through an economic downward spiral. It is imperative that immigration continues through organizations similar to The Au Pair
