As I approached the vehicle I smelled the odor of Marijuana emitting from within the vehicle. I then made contact with driver, later identified as Minkah Peters DOB 07/23/1997. I advised Peters of the reason I stopped him, and asked he for a drivers license or ID card, at which time he stated, he did not have any ID on him. I instructed Peters to place the vehicle in park and step out of the vehicle to speak with me. After Peters was out of the vehicle, I asked him if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, and he stated, "there's nothing in the vehicle, you can search it". I then returned to the vehicle near the opened driver door, and observed a piece of Marijuana on the driver side floor board, along with two pieces in the drivers door compartment. While standing at the drivers side door, I also observed a black semi-automatic handgun resting between the drivers seat and the center console of the vehicle. Cotton's towing was dispatched to the scene, where they impounded the vehicle.
Peters was given a citation for careless driving, and charged with Possession of Marijuana (less than 30 grams), and possession of a stolen firearm. Then transported to the HCADC.
The Marijuana was placed into the Gulfport Police Station property room, along with a crime lab submission form. The handgun was also placed into the Gulfport Police station property room as (Stolen/Recovered) property. Photos of the handgun were uploaded into Veripic.
