1.1 Background Information
A kampung is a traditional housing area, many of which used to exist and accommodate many Singaporeans in the past. With the fast-paced development of the modern era, these elusive villages have been disappearing from our country. Currently, there is only one kampung remaining in Singapore - Kampung Lorong Buangkok.
Perhaps the kampung is best known for the mentality that subsisted within it. Our main research objective is to raise awareness about Kampung Lorong Buangkok amongst Year 1 students in Raffles Institution, as well as to find out the general level of awareness about Kampung Buangkok and its impending demolishment amongst Year 1 students in Raffles Institution. We also intend to find out what Rafflesians think is the best method of conserving the heritage of Kampung Lorong Buangkok, and infer methods to increase awareness of the kampung spirit, to prevent it from being lost.

We utilized the feedback given to better formulate and develop our questions to be more concise and relevant.
22 copies of the survey were given out randomly to students during two recesses, at different locations in the campus. At the end, the completed copies of the survey were collated and analysed, and we reported the findings and data accordingly.
2.2 Interview
We wanted to gather more data about Kampung Buangkok and its conservation through the interview from someone who might feel more personally about kampung Buangkok. Therefore, we decided to interview Mdm Sng Mui Hong, the landlady of Kampung Buangkok. We believed that her position as landlady of the place would give her stronger feelings about the kampung and its impending demolishment. The objectives of this interview were to:
• Find out more about the life of those still living in kampung Buangkok
• Find out about the views of those living in kampung Buangkok regarding its demolishment.
• Support or challenge the results of our survey, which had a very narrow scope and might have a one-sided view.
