Beep Monologue
“Beep, beep” I was awoken by the sound of an alarm and I wasn’t sure why. I hadn’t set my alarm for 5:30 in the morning as that’s just too early. I supposed it was Ponyboy, but what would he be doing awake so early on a Sunday morning? I walked into Ponyboy’s room and sure enough, he was awake. He had already gotten out of bed, turned off his alarm, and got to work on his English assignment. He sure is very serious about his assignment, and it’s good that he is. Hopefully he’ll have it done by tomorrow; the due date, and at least get a C to pass English class. I have no doubts though, Ponyboy has been working very hard. I think our fight might have knocked some sense into him. We don’t fight anymore though, and Sodapop is much happier now. Ponyboy has been …show more content…
I was alone. Alone in the quiet house that once was home to my two brothers; Sodapop and Ponyboy. How could I possibly let them get away? I need to look for them. I sat down at Ponyboy’s desk and I glanced at his English assignment. I didn’t read it. Ponyboy didn’t want me to know what it was about until it was complete. I started thinking... the way those men walked into the house and just took my brothers without talking to me, they couldn’t have been official. The judge didn’t seem to be worried about my younger brothers when Ponyboy talked about his home life at the courthouse the other day. Sodapop and Ponyboy could be dead right now. I pushed the thought away. No way could I lose Johnny, Dally, Sodapop, and Ponyboy all in such a short time. Then, I fell

He was a Greaser but has been frightened by the Socs. He has been stereotyped as a juvenile delinquent by and has always been made fun of. Ever since Ponyboy has been brought into this gang life he fails to see the good side in any Soc and is to stick together with the Greasers believing that each one of them lives up to their name as being the jet set rich kids. However, there is one input from a Soc that makes Ponyboy realize that the Socs and Greasers both go through the same struggles, Cherry. She opened up Pony’s eyes to believe that there is only one difference between the Socs and Greasers. “You Greaser have a different set of values. You’re more emotional. We’re more sophisticated--cool to the point of not feeling anything. Nothing is real with us.” (Hinton 33) From this Ponyboy learned that you can’t just judge someone from what people tell you or how you have been taught to know them as growing up.
