Being An Honors Student Essay

“[E]ducation… is a process of living and not a preparation for future living.” (My Pedegogic Creed, 1929). John Dewey correctly summed up education in that quote. No matter how hard you try, you cannot escape from trying to get an education that prepares for future living and not learn something along the way. Everyone uses what they have learned through education every day, from a toddler to a senior citizen. College is a part of education where most students think that they are only preparing for their future career, while in reality, they are actually putting the skills they have learned to use each day in class. From the education occurring at a young age, to the skills learned from school, education is something that is used in everyday living. From a young age, we are educated. While we are not educated in the traditional sense, we are educated nonetheless. Through the very aspect of breathing we are being educated. Education means the knowledge and development resulting from an educational process.
A honors student is given opportunities to expand his education and experiences beyond the classroom. They are students who are constantly wanting to learn and to share with others what they have learned. A role of an honors student is to make sure that he shares his greater knowledge with the rest of the students and each other. In the building analogy a honors student is the house that gets greater attention and slightly higher end furnishings, in return they are to help those who are not honors houses to decorate so they look better. The value of an honors student is to help keep the equilibrium on campus. Without honors students, colleges would not enjoy the same rate of learning than with honors students. The property value on a whole block with regular houses is less than that of a block that has a fewer nicer houses sprinkled in. Overall, a honors student is an important part of the college
