They don’t get enough money from their scholarships so they have to take out loans. "People often assume that athletic scholarships allow student-athletes to come out of college debt-free," said Greg Shanfeld, "not all athletes are fortunate enough to receive scholarships. A full-ride typically covers only the costs of tuition and fees, often times the athletes will take out student loans to cover housing and other living expenses.” (Heitner, Darren. "College Athletes Are Not Immune To America's Student Debt Dilemma.”) With that being said, “According to ScholarshipStats.com, the average Division I scholarship is $14,720 for men and $15,162 for women, far less than the average cost of tuition.” (Tretina, Kat. Joe Nocera wrote “If we move toward a pay-for-play model — if we were to convert our student athletes to employees of the university — that would be the death of college athletics,” Emmert reported. “Then they are subcontractors. Why would you even want them to be students? Why would you care about their graduation rates? Why would you care about their behavior?” (“Let’s Start Paying College Athletes”) I think that’s wrong because when you get a job, you are interviewed to see your behavior and resume. I believe that people would still care if student-athletes graduate and care about their behavior just like how a manager would want you to flourish in your job and not have bad attitudes. If we were to pay college athletes a reasonable hourly or daily pay, it would help out a lot of athletes and there would be less debt in America. Although, some athletes might think they don’t need a job if they get paid to practice so there would need to be a requirement of sorts that you have to hold onto a job and work a certain amount of days so that they stay responsible. If we do those two things then it would help college athletes tremendously. Hard work is a great deal of effort or endurance. It is determination, and something that should be regarded in
