Many people in today’s society will say that veganism is one of the healthiest lifestyle changes a person can decide to make. Veganism is a concept that may be hard to understand at first, and even harder to perform successfully. Reasons why this may true are that there are many restrictions that come along with a vegan lifestyle, but alongside these restrictions there are benefits for one's body, and the planet as a whole. Vegan lifestyles have turned from a fad to now a fact, and it’s time for people to be able to comprehend what it all entails.
Veganism is a lifestyle in which one chooses to eliminate all forms of discretion and cruelty to animals. Vegetarians are people who will not consume any form of meat. While Vegans take it another step further, and choose not to consume any animal products or use any product derived from animals for physical appearance. The first being weight loss, simply because studies show that vegans typically eat more fruits and vegetables, watch less television, meaning they are more active, and lastly because they get a full night of sleep. The second benefit of veganism, and why people choose to pick up this lifestyle is because it can help prevent cancer while promoting longevity.     My passionate love and care for the environment and animals gives me the satisfaction that I am helping the planet and its inhabitants. It also gives me the opportunity to experiment with vegan alternatives to eggs, such as chickpea brine. From these vegan culinary experiments, I learn more about baking, and what makes baked goods rise and stay moist. It would not be an exaggeration to say that being a vegan makes me more empathic because it constantly reminds of the harsh cruelty animals face every day. Being a vegan means that I acknowledge that animal cruelty exists and that I want to end it. There is a joke that says “An Atheist, a Vegan and cross fitter walk into a bar….. I only know because they told everyone within two minutes.” I can confirm that veganism such a huge part of my identity that it's one of the first things I mention about myself when I introduce myself to people. It usually helps spark up conversations that often lead to arguments about, animal cruelty, and the meat and dairy industry. I like to argue so, I think that being a vegan allows me to have interesting arguments and conversations with people that I would never have if I weren't a vegan. But being a vegan comes with negative consequences as well. For one thing, I try not to go to food-related events because I hate having to ask if the dishes there are vegan since I don’t like to put pressure on people. It usually turns out that most of the food isn’t vegan so I end up eating salad anyways. I once went to a bar mitzvah and all I had to eat was a tasteless salad. I hated it. Everyone was asking me if I was ok because I was too embarrassed to tell them that I wasn't eating the food because it wasn’t vegan. I hate having to bug people. It just feels really rude.
