Beowulf Character Analysis
Heroes
1. The characteristics of a hero really revolve around choices. I honestly do not think that a hero needs to be beautiful or sexy or anything. I believe that a hero can be an average everyday person. Most heroes are attractive and good looking but that is because they exist in movies and stories and are fictional. Take Gilgamesh, for example. He was “created by the gods” so obviously he was extremely attractive and had god like features and everyone either wanted him, or wanted to be him. But, he is a fictional character. I think that the main characteristics that make someone a hero are courage, morality, honor, respect, they fight for the good, and they focus on the needs of others rather than their personal needs. A hero is a savior. Beowulf saved his people more than once. He saved them from Grendel, from Grendel’s mother, and from the dragon. I also think that if someone is a hero, they cannot be afraid of

Three examples of heroes are Beowulf, Gilgamesh, and Achilles. Beowulf is a hero because he risks his own life for his people and is so willing to save them. He has no regrets about his choices to fight Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the dragon. He was courageous and he made the right choices so that his people would be safe. Gilgamesh is a hero because, even though in the beginning he was not courageous, he did not make the right choices, and he was not even respectful, he did end up changing his ways. He did make the right choices in the end. He fought Humbaba so his people would have some confidence in themselves, and so they would not be scared to stand up for themselves. He was being a good example by fighting Humbaba, which is a heroic thing to do. He also fought the bull that Ishtar unleashed on his city and he killed it, saving his people. Achilles is a hero because he is fighting against Hector to avenge the death of his best friend. To me, that is a very heroic thing to do because he was fighting passionately for something he

On the subject of heroism, Maya Angelou once wrote that “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people” (Angelou). The general picture that comes to mind when the word “hero” is said is the idea of Superman or Wonder Woman; however, a true hero is anyone who tries to make their world a better place. Odysseus, the hero in Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, fought in the Trojan War and embarked on a ten year journey to return to his kingdom, Ithaca. During his quest to return home, he encounters many supernatural forces that show both his heroic, and not so heroic actions. He faces countless challenges, meets new people, and has to make sacrifices for the overall benefit of his crew (Bowler and Homer 645-705).…

    Example Of Heroism Essay

Heroes have three main traits: enough guts to ignore those who have a problem with their goals and the way they are living their life, devotion to their cause, and benevolence towards everyone, no matter what. They do their best to be brave, courageous, and have spirit; in one word, gutsy. Even though many people didn’t support her and called her a witch, Joan of Arc had the bravery and strength to continue fighting for her cause. She used her courage and spirit to ignore negative opinions from the people around her. Heroes are devoted to their cause, and are persistent in trying to reach their goals, especially through hard times. An example is Penelope, wife of Odysseus. He went away to fight in a war, and didn’t come back. “Everyone by now took for granted that he was dead, except Penelope, his wife…the hope that her husband would return was faint, but it never died.” (Mythology, Edith Hamilton.) Penelope waited twenty…

    Hero Definition Essay

The definition of a hero is a relatively simple one; a hero is someone who positively impacts others through their actions and accomplishments. While we all have different views on who exactly we see as a hero, there are certain individuals, such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln, who have undeniably changed the world and fit this definition. I have found that many of the individuals who society, and I personally, view as great heroes, share a certain set of traits that almost definitely had a large part in their accomplishments. This is why I believe that bravery, selflessness, and determination are three vital traits when it comes to defining what it means to be a hero.…
