Best Breakthrough Athletes Rhetorical Analysis
Thank you so much, Coach, thank you, ESPN, and thank you, everyone. The award for Best Breakthrough Athlete is a huge honor, but much bigger than just me. This year I had a lot of experience being part of events that are bigger than myself. At times, I felt like I was trapped in an inescapable crevice, and I know I will be able to climb out. But I’m here tonight to tell you the lessons I learned about teamwork, perseverance, and staying relaxed will never leave me.
I once put all the wisdom in the world into three short sentences: Be coherent, -- sorry. Be confident, stay relaxed, and do not give up. Those are the words to live by, whether you’re new or experienced, tall or short, fast or slow. So let me tell you why those words are so important to me, like this award is.
First, be confident. Like most of us, I used to be very unsure of myself. But it only motivated me to work harder and get faster. I was so blessed to have a great father figure like my dad, my counselor and my second coach. And great coaches who knew my potential, and did everything humanly possible to inspire me to capitalize on it.
Next, stay relaxed. What I had were opportunities to compete and run my fastest times ever, but there was lots of pressure involved. Running taught me about staying calm, avoiding anxiety, and

My new coach, a young man who took a chance on me, just like I took a chance on him. And my teammates, Nate and Luke, who have motivated me to persevere and help me get where I am today. My entire West Fargo family, for all the support they’ve given me in my struggles, you will always be there to help me get through tough spots. And to the Mustangs organization, Mr. Ross Richards, Coach Husen, and my teammates. To my mother, who raised three kids, I love you very much. Last, but not least, my fellow team, people tell me that I’m their inspiration, but you are my

In the blog Not for Sport by Barbara Munson, the argument is presented that teams should not use “Indian” mascots. Using a statement and response dialogue Munson argues against what she feels are “common misunderstandings on this issue” (Munson 1). Munson uses ethos, pathos and logos with weak results. Munson’s target audience are the general population and more specifically communities with current “Indian” mascots and leaders in those communities.…

Different authors use different techniques to persuade. The three main ways of persuading are through: pathos, which uses emotions, ethos, which proves their credibility, and logos, which implies the general message. Shakespeare, Lance Armstrong, and Amanda Ripley have all written articles arguing their opinion on the value of life. Of the three articles Lance Armstrong best persuades the audience with his argument that life is very valuable and that you could better your life from something negative, through his exceptional use of both logos and pathos.…

The last paragraph of “His Last Game” adds a sentimental tone. The specific line that gives the audience a sense of remorse is, “What happens to what I remember? You remember it for me, okay?”. It also allows us to see that he has finally realized that his memories are what is most important to him, not only his last memories, but rather those little memories between him and his brother have shared in the past. He reminds us that the little things in life are the ones that have the greatest effect on us, these memories are going to be the ones that we remember the most.…

What makes a parent happy? This ad by United Sports Academy shows that it is to see their kids smile or happy. From my experience in coaching gymnastics, this “smiling all the time” attitude is not always the case. You have cases where kids are very unhappy, which this ad seems to skip over. This advertisement is very engaging, and shows us that your kid will be happy if they are in gymnastics.…

“The one who wins wants to win the most” Steve Prefontaine the famous distance runner said. For runners either competitive or amateur, this often means long hard training sessions, putting their body through pain, giving up favorite foods and sacrificing their time. Runners must have incredible discipline at all levels to be competitive, avoid injury, and stay healthy. diet, training, consistency, and determination all play a huge role in the difference between good runners and great runners. Being in the military has caused me to become a better athlete than I have been before. Running is one of our main focuses and in my personal life I have strived to become better at it since I know that I despise running but need to improve on it. One of the things that I have learned is that in order for a high performance runner to reach a level that is desired to help max out their run time for military standards, the individual needs to have a focused training, training with an objective.…

Being a member of the ECXC team has been one of the best experiences I’ve had the pleasure of having and I consider myself lucky to have three cross country seasons remaining in my collegiate career. My freshman season, though very memorable and wonderful, flew by so quickly it was honestly unbelievable. I took many valuable lessons away from this season which I’ll carry with me throughout my career such as to have faith in my coaching and to trust my training. Also, I learned that to succeed and strive in this sport you must go the extra mile, not only while at practice but on your own too. Running isn’t just a sport, it is a life style. Though it was not always fun and games and definitely not easy at times I learned so much from my first…

The first time that I competed in a race, I was still a small premature boy. I had no incentive to run, other than a child's desire to be free and wild. There was no trophy waiting at the end. All there was, was the smile and compliment of encouragement a parent gave a child. My friends and I were excited and nervous. There would be kids who were in the Sixth Grade there! The race was a long race going around a track, through a trail and then doubling back. Since I was still a quiet boy who liked to remain in the background, the older boys pushed their way with ease to the edge of the starting line. The gym teacher signaled for us to start and the wave of people flooded the track. My friends and I always were always competing with each other for best mile time in Gym class. This was just another one of those moments. As we ran through the trail, I saw a friend being led by a volunteer. Crying and bellyaching, he was walked off the course. The initial questions of concern came to mind, and quickly passed as we ran on. My feet crunch the gravel as I am still a child running for the sense of freedom. With one of my best friends now beside me on the track, we make the turn into the final stretch. I know that I am tired and just want to reach the finish line. However, my best friend sped up along with a few other boys. They were still…
