The Traditional School Calendar is Better Than The Year Round School Calendar

Some schools in the USA have been switching to the year round school calendar instead of the traditional regular calendar. How would all the children in the USA act if their school year were made year round? The year round school schedule is when students have a 45-15 schedule in which every 45 days they get a 15 day break and they get a 30 day summer break and weekends. Unlike the traditional calendar, which is where, they have 60 days of summer break and they have holidays break and weekends. Students and parents wont be able to do anything together thanks to the schedule. The traditional school calendar is better than the year round school schedule.

Students need a long summer break to relax from the stress of school. The school year is stressful project due date’s tests, exams etc. students need some time to cool down. As care.com states “the absence of a true summer can be a negative for all concerned. Summers off have long been a light at the end of the tunnel for teachers after an intense school year”. This is saying people are waiting for summer break as a light at the end of the tunnel. Also it is saying that students and teachers have an intense school year, so they wait for summer. So as you can see people wait for the end and it’s a way out for relaxation.
Families will not have enough time to do something together.
Family’s are used to having a long summer breaks to schedule vacations reunions and other things. As Care.com states "American families have become accustomed to the traditional long summer vacation. Parents may find it difficult to schedule vacations and family reunions." This is saying that families have become accustomed to the long summer break and now will find it difficult to schedule a vacation or other things. So now many families will not be able to or may find it difficult to schedule any meaningful family
time.

They are missing out in great opportunities, schools can’t give them. School cannot give kids opportunities like sports or camp or other things they cannot get provided in school. Taking that time away from kids means they could miss out on art, culture and special adventures. "During summer break, kids are getting all sorts of experiences they wouldn't get in school," Lloyd says. This is saying that they can get special opportunities that school may not provide. So now kids might not be able to get their special activities now.

Now some people say that year round schooling cuts down on the brain drain. But there is evidence to disprove this claim. Students can learn much more out of school then in school. As Benjamin Studebaker says “There are many skills students acquire during the summer at a faster rate than they acquire them during the school year. In particular, there is one essential skill our schools ignore that summers are a panacea for–creativity”. This is very clear evidence that school does not teach things that students can learn by themselves out of school. As Benjamin Studebaker says “Summer vacation is really one big, long, extended recess. It’s a chunk of time for children to play, to recharge, to explore interests that don’t receive class time in school, to self-manage their time without the constant imposition of structure. Summer is a time to play sports, to do art, to play games, to socialize with friends, to explore hobbies and subjects outside the curriculum”. This is yet another reason why summer is not a brain drain students are learning different things then language arts, math, science and social studies. Kids need to have their own time to learn different things than just the curriculum and they will learn other things.

The evidence that was just showed should be more than enough to prove that the traditional school calendar is better than the year round school calendar. Students will be able to do much more with this traditional calendar then to the year round school calendar. It will also make everyone including the teachers a lot less stressed out then they already are. Students will also want to get a lot down because they want to be done with school and go to summer break. Students and teacher will be much more active and positive in school if we keep the traditional calendar. Students never let this happen to your school.
