Explain, in a 200- to 300-word response, the biomedical approach as well as the psychodynamic, humanistic-existential, behavior, and cognitive approaches to psychotherapy listed in your text.
There are so many approaches that can be taken place when pertaining to psychotherapy.
The five main approaches are biomedical, the psychodynamic, humanistic-existential, behavior, and cognitive. The Biomedical approach would be to talk to the patient thoroughly to find the right medication to alleviate the anxiety or depression with the least amount of side effects. On the other hand, the psychodynamic approach would involve having the patient talk about their current feelings mixed with those felt in childhood. There would be little talk about the current situation in a problem solving mode. This relieves the current situation problem by going back to see why this problem even exists. Next, is the behaviorist approach, it would examine the entire process and break it down step by step, thought by thought and choose which problem of the process to eliminate. By doing this, it is exposing the client to the problem at hand in a supported environment that would help them to re-train their brain to have a different response to situations. This method is sometimes effective but the next approach is used often. The humanistic-existential approach would have the clients talk about their feelings on the situation with more detail into the inner thoughts and feelings as they connect to the external. They would direct the client to speak about the fears and take control of their feelings, wrestling them back from the phobia and external world. Last but not least, the cognitive therapist would examine the thought process steps prior to the event and design with the client a new, corrective thought process that they would enact before the phobic situation response starts. This would be based on logic. They would practice this formula until the phobic response is eliminated. There are so many approaches to help a person that need psychotherapy to get better. All of these methods are used around the world and help many people daily!
