One of the other reasons I would like to study Biomedical science is the fact that it will allow me to have a better understanding of diseases such as Cancer. One of the motivations I have for studying Biomedical Science is because of some of my …show more content…
relatives suffering from Cancer. From seeing their suffering, the pain that they went through to try to survive Bladder Cancer has only made me more determined to make a contribution in applying the skills needed to find ways to cure Cancer, and help future patients not suffer from such diseases again.
Since being in full time education through BTEC Applied science, I have developed my creative skills which has helped me apply the scientific knowledge of the Biomedical science area to come up with different propositions to treat different diseases.
Combining full time education with working part time at a export company has also been challenging. Working part time has helped me support myself, which involved helping to package electronics, tape postage labels and input sales data into a database. This has helped me experience the demands of being employed, and has helped me juggle studying and employment simultaneously. These experiences of helping others, working as a team, having an increased workload have only given me a greater insight on how it would be to become a Biomedical scientist. This has made me want to study Biomedical Sciences even more, as it would give me greater satisfaction in helping people who are suffering from bad
health.
When it comes to my hobbies, I am a very active person when it comes to helping others. I have a keen passion in charity work, and have been involved in a fundraising campaign for school equipment required in schools in Kenya. Working with other like minded people as a team has not only built my confidence working with others, but it has also improved my communication skills. I have also been part of community initiatives when it comes to raising awareness for the Anthony Nolan Cell Therapy Centre blood transfusion initiative, in the ethnic minority communities. I believe this has only motivated more into having a career in the healthcare sector, as it would help me provide a positive service to the wider community as a whole.
I firmly believe that studying Biomedical Science at University will give me the opportunity, to develop and enhance the scientific skills required in the challenging environment that the Biomedical field has. I believe that my strong determination, positive attitude and desire to be successful at university, will help me succeed in career in the health sector.
