Boerhavia Mellita Lab Report
Collection of Plant Material and Extraction The experimental plant Boerhavia diffusa was collected from the areas in and around Coimbatore and duly authenticated from Botanical Survey of India, TNAU, Coimbatore. The authentication number is BSI/SRC/5/23/2013-14/Tech/1041. Fresh leaves of Boerhavia diffusa was extracted by Soxhlet apparatus for 72 hours using 95% ethanol. The extract obtained is filtered and the solvent was removed by using rotary evaporator apparatus and used for the study.
Chemicals
Total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-C diagnostic kits, streptozotocin, isoproterenol, were obtained from Sigma, Chemico Co, USA. All the other chemicals and solvents used were of analytical grade.

Induction of myocardial infarction (MI) in experimental animal
Myocardial infarction was induced in the rats (Group 2, Group 3 and Group 4) by intraperitoneal injection of isoproterenol hydrochloride at a dose of 80 mg/kg body weight for two consecutive days (after pre-treatment with leaf extract and drugs (glibenclamide and statin) for a period of 45 days).

To this, 1.0 ml of 5N H2SO4 was added and digested in a digestion rack till it became light brown. It was then cooled to room temperature; one or two drops of 2N HNO3 were added, digested again till it became colourless.     Gestational diabetes is defined as any degree of glucose intolerance that has its onset or is first diagnosed during pregnancy.
