In the community aspect, visiting and touring the atmosphere made me realize how close the arts students are towards each other. This connection exemplifies what I would want in a community: a community full of kindness and support.
Additionally, within the college of visual arts, the majors are all fascinating and impressive. Undergraduates can study graphic design alongside other majors and other disciplines, also they can study at the School’s study abroad program in Venice, Italy. Personally, it’s been a personal dream of mine to travel around the world and experience different cultures and visual art. Italy is great example of visual arts …show more content…
culture, producing revolutionary visual artists that changed art history. Thus, to embark in that journey would be absolutely incredible. Ultimately, the graphic design major is what my life has led up to. With experience in graphic design for four years, I am excited to see what this major will further challenge me with. Boston University is the school for me because not only would it provide me with foundation skills, but a supportive community and necessary change.

In 500–550 words, describe a situation in which you combined analysis and creativity to solve a challenging problem. The problem could be personal, social, political, environmental, or something quite different. The Admission Committee is interested more in your process or method in considering the problem than in whether you reached a definitive solution.
A papier-mâché Calamity
Art is ingrained in every bone in my body, and it never seems to rest. Visual art assignments reminded me of small problems that would transform into drastic dramatic catastrophes. Often there was an immense deal about a miniscule problem, only for me to completely attempt to fix it the second time. As a result, my art process would be dependent to my surroundings and my skill in analyzing/ observing what could further help in the moment.
Moreover, an art piece that challenged me significantly at the time was the dreaded Paper Mache self-portrait: It all started with a redheaded towering teacher, Mrs.
Marsh, dropping wires in front of my table.
“Start constructing your head. First, form it with wire,” she bluntly stated.
This was fearsome. My comfort zone was purely 2D: drawing, painting, photography, design, and not 3D.
In the moment, one couldn’t help but notice numerous swift hand movements, but I just attempted to ignore that and focus. All the faces were astonishing; every single piece remained crafted to exactitude. I contemplated: “What the…How did these guys form the wire when mine looks like a metal pancake?” Time stood against me, most of the students were already ahead of me and this made me bite my nails. My hands felt paralyzed by all the cuts, pokes, and bruises the wire carved on my fingers. All I could do was pay attention to the sudden restless thoughts in my head. I threw it away. The tension irreversibly
escaped. This was merely the first step: the start of a fresh beginning. To recreate the piece I had to work with whatever was at my disposal. Some students left the job done at creating the form, with no added facial features. While on the contrary, I scurried to the art closet and grabbed paint, scissors, brushes, glue and construction paper. The construction paper was cut in a way to resemble hair texture, all while mixing water with glue, becoming a foundation to the placed “skin” on the wire. The paint was mixed constantly until the right amount of yellow and browns created the desired skin tone. The work did not stop. Thus, I took the stack of wire, Mache paper, paint, and took it all home. Once there, I tossed everything on the dining table and commenced immediately. I remember trying to amplify every detail: my full lips, my dark curly hair, and my long eyelashes. I was determined. The head stood ultimately 5 times the size of my own and the following day I took it to school. Looking back, this challenge taught me more than just a process. Being aware of your mistakes the first time, can further improve your second attempt. Analyzing my environment and adapting to what is available further helped in increasing my creativity in the process.
