Boy's State Dedication Examples
An accomplishment that I am very proud of and believe is a strong example of my dedication is the following. When I was twelve I trained for and completed a half marathon. I finished with a time of 1:42 and won the eighteen and under age group. My training for this race included running, biking, and weightlifting. Every night, many times by myself and other times with my mother, I would go out and run or workout. I remember going out Christmas Eve for interval training and then rushing home to make sure I did not miss the Christmas Eve service. The next year I completed another half marathon in 1:32 averaging a 7:09 mile pace. Last year I traveled to Florida to run the Disney Half Marathon and completed it in 1:22 averaging a 6:18 mile. Through hard work and dedication I got 45th out of over 22,000 runners in Disney. …show more content…
Once accepted to the Boy's State program I ran for and was ultimately elected Boy's State Treasurer. As the Boy's State Treasurer I spent a day shadowing the real Delaware State Treasurer whom I have remained in contact with to this day. During the five day experience I had a total of 10 hours of sleep due to staying up late to help others craft legislation and to ensure that said legislation was economically viable. Boy's State was by far the best program I have ever attended. I had the opportunity to meet other young, driven men from all across the state and get to develop friendships with them. At the end of Boy's State I was awarded a Good Citizen Citation by the American Legion. I also met State Senator Bryan Townsend whom I saw again when I delivered a speech about the benefits of GMOs at a Farm Bureau event. As a student I have maxed out the math courses at my school. Due to this I independent studied AP Calculus C over the summer through John Hopkins CTY online. During my senior year I will independent study Multi-Variable

My dad grew up wanting to be a firefighter. Once he grew up, he decided to put that dream into action by actually becoming one. My dad had to work through the many physical and mental challenges and tests in order for him to make his dream come true. However, when he met my mom and they were instantly in love. After they got married, my mom spoke to my dad telling him that if they were going to have a family, my mom wouldn't want to have to worry about his safety, because being a firefighter is very dangerous and stressful on a family. So, my dad decided that being a dad was more important to him. Although it was still hard for him to know that his hard work to become a firefighter was all for nothing. Another example of when my dad had to persevere was when he had a seizure. My dad had 3 seizures and he told me that he felt as if he wasn't in control of his body. He said that knowing he didn’t have control was one of the scariest things he has experienced. He had to work through fears going through his head, but also physically. He had to go through many tests and recovery assignments that required him to persevere physically. Overall, my dad has worked very hard to get to where he is now and that is why he is a great example of showing what perseverance can…

My freshman year, I decided to join my high school Cross Country team. When I started running, it quickly became clear that I was not a gifted athlete. I was slow and often did not enjoy the sport. When the season first started, it took me forty minutes to run a 5k. This time was appalling but oddly, it was what kept me from giving up. There were times when I wanted to quit and go back to never running but the thought of that forty-minute 5k stopped me from doing so. I stayed on the team and pushed myself harder and harder every day. When I felt like stopping, I made myself go even further. I came to practice every single day and sometimes I stayed late. On the days that we did not have practice as a team, I ran on my own. I was dedicated…

All this accomplishments came because I as a leader consider my teammates as my family and kept the sport entertaining. I believed I was leading the team in a right direction because the runners were glad every day, they never complained about practicing every day. I made sure they like the team and my leadership because I want them to step up and talk to me whenever I am making mistakes, I did not want them to fear me. I believe leaders are formed to help others and that’s what I believe I have achieved with my…

During my time running cross country last year, I attempted to push myself and inspire those around me. Even after the season had ended I wanted to push myself just a bit farther; I accomplished this by running a half marathon. After I had finished, my fellow teammates who did not run felt inspired by me, and they were sure that they wanted to run the same half marathon after the next season. Having inspired them, I felt as if I accomplished much more than running a half marathon. I was able to take a small part in leading them to their future…

When I saw my mother I burst into tears, asking her If I can quite running. She allowed me to quiet and I was longer running on the track. That race was probably the most terrifying and monumental race of my life. Even though I gave up running track and field at the moment, my mind set changed I believed I began to work harder after that moment in my life. I try to be more prepared for things so I never have to have that feeling of being such a loser. I had tried out for the Blue Guards drill team the very first week of school with many other people who wanted to be on the team as much as I did. I worked really hard to be apart of the team. Never in my life have I ever tried that hard to be apart of a wonderful opportunity. It was a weeklong process of drilling, knowledge, leadership, and discipline. This week long tryouts not only showed everyone how hard I worked for a spot on the team but I proved to myself that if I wanted something bad enough I could work my hardest and achieve it.…

Education has always been one of the most important things to me, and I am dedicated to learn as much as humanly possible. Throughout my high school career I have challenged myself by completing six advanced placement classes and taking other honors classes. I have taken these classes as a way to help guide myself for what is to come in the future in college. I was inducted into the National Honors Society during my junior year of high school, and I graduated with honors. Both of these successes are the two greatest accomplishments of my high school career. These two achievements prove how dedicated I was, and still am, to getting the best education I could. My quality of dedication will stick with me throughout my future endeavors.…
