Walt Disney was not just someone who drew cartoons for a section of a newspaper; he changed the American culture with his creativity and ideas. Walt Disney is a man who changed the way people entertain themselves. Because he inspired so many people, they strive to become who they want to be so that they can be successful, like him. I chose Walt Disney for my project because he has had a major effect on my life through his movies, cartoons, and theme parks. When I saw “Steamboat Willie” starring Mickey Mouse, I thought that it was very interesting because that was one of Disney’s very first films and that is where his career began with Mickey. Walt Disney once said, “It all started with a mouse,” but if you ask me, it did not start off with…

The first thing we think about when we think of Disney, is Mickey Mouse. In 1928, “Steamboat Willie” was Mickey’s biggest appearance. Mickey Rooney and Disney’s wife, Lillian, both take tribute to Mickey’s name. At first it was Mortimer, but Lillian thought it was too stuck up. Rooney thought it was him because he met Disney shortly before the creation of the mouse. Mickey Mouse is the biggest thing in entertainment all around the world, especially America. People vote for him in some local elections and he was the top most common person to be voted for in November 2014. Cohort Donald Duck is right under Mickey. In 1987, Georgia made a law to where people can not vote for Mickey and Wisconsin is too soon (Ulster). That just says how much people love him; they love him enough to vote for him.…

Brockway begins his article by describing Walt Disney himself trying to explain the dramatic success of his simply drawn cartoon character. It starts the article by showing the reader that even Disney himself is shocked by the massive popularity the animated mouse collects during the 1920s and 1930s. This also sets up the first point the writer pushes which is that Mickey Mouse is no ordinary cartoon character but a diverse, evolving cultural symbol that everyone around the world can relate to. As the author puts it, “He has become an archetypal symbol, not only to Americans but to people everywhere, especially to the generation that was young during the thirties.” Brockway goes on to reinforce the initial argument by stating that the entire film industry was shocked by the torrential success of Disney’s character and saying, “Mickey was instantly popular not only among ordinary people young and old, but with intellectuals, artists, and heads of state (Profiles of Popular Culture 80).” The author continues to press the point of the cartoon’s global influence talking about the king, George V, in England requiring a Mickey Mouse short be watched before every film performances and the Emperor of Japan wearing a Mickey Mouse watch.…
It’s a fair fact that not one person who hasn’t heard or knows of Walt Disney exists. Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5th, 1901. After dropping out of high school to drive ambulances in World War 1, he returned in 1919 to Kansas City, Kansas, for an apprenticeship as a commercial artist. By 1922, Disney has set up a shop with his brother, Roy Disney, and collaborator, Ub Iwerks; they created the business Laugh-o-Grams, which specialized in short cartoons, and the magic began from there and is forever growing stronger. The article “Walter Elias Disney” states, “His (Disney) insistence on technical perfection and his unsurpassed gifts as story editor quickly pushed his firm ahead. The invention of such cartoon characters as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Minnie, and Goofy combined with the daring and innovative use of music, sound, and folk material (as in The Three Little Pigs) made the Disney shorts of the 1930s a phenomenon of worldwide success.”(“Walter Elias Disney”, 1) Some might say Disney’s work was uneducational, was a waste of space, and just plain silly. Walt Disney made a positive impact on America, because of how his entertaining work made life for other bearable, how he had the ability to cause people to change perspective on anything and everything, and by how he introduced technological innovations and transformed animation.…
