Brown Bag Speech
Purpose Statement: These are objects that represent me as a person.
I. Introduction
A. Attention getter: What do you think the best job in the world would be? How does getting paid to play video games sound?
B. Thesis Statement: Hi, my name is Katy Anderson, and while working at Chuck E. Cheese’s as a Game Room Technician, I get paid to play the games you pay to play.
II. Body
A. Work
1. Work is my main priority, over everything including school. That’s just how I am. So its important that I work somewhere I can be myself and have fun doing it.
2. I brought this picture of me actually enjoying myself, at work, as a moose. Clearly I can have a good time!
B. Video Games
1. Sometimes the games at work aren’t enough and I feel the need to play some of my own games.
a. I’m more into retro/ old style game systems that bring back childhood memories on the N64. I’ve also invested in an NES on top of my collection of actual games.
b. Even though I love the classics I can’t say “no” to the graphics on the new games like Call of Duty. “Pause...”
C. Referrals
1. Oopes I wasn’t supposed to say that. But I’ve gotten in trouble for saying worse.
a. Here I have the 32 referrals I’ve been awarded in my high school career with more to come in this final semester.
2. These can tell you three things about me: I have a bad habit of being late, I occasionally text in class, and that my vocabulary contains a few bad words. However…
D. Music
1. I’m not a bad person; I guess you could call me a band geek, because I play the saxophone. I’ve been taking private saxophone lessons for about 8 years now. They’ve been EXTREMELY helpful when I have an audition coming up. Even after the audition, I continue to better myself by memorizing scales, arpeggios, pentatonics, and how to transpose into different key signatures.
2. I understand that most of you didn’t understand a word I just said, but to me, music is my second language. So to confuse you even more, I’ve brought in one of the many saxophone exercise books that I’ve played through. After so much time of playing, it all becomes muscle memory, in the same way a basketball player can make shots from certain spots after figuring out how much force to use. After a while, it just becomes natural.
E. Bag
1. I don’t just love playing music, I love listening too.
a. I went to warped tour last July in St. Louis and got this bag from one of the stands. If you don’t know what warped tour is, it’s a music festival composed of 75 bands playing all day, that also do signings, and pictures.
b. One of the coolest parts of being at warped tour was having a huge guy asking “Do you wanna get up there?” He meant crowd surfing and HOLY JESUS IT’S THE BEST THING EVER!! Unless someone drops you on your head, luckily I was brought down gentle.
2. Lets not forget about the music. One of my favorite bands, Taking Back Sunday, was performing there and I would have paid the full $37 just to see them play.
a. So $37 divided by the 75 bands, that’s only $0.49 for each band that performs. That’s definitely worth it.
F. Wilbergh
1. Something that comes naturally could be described as knowing how it feels. I’ve known that I’ve liked girls since as long as I can remember. This is Wilbergh the Fish and my girlfriend Baylee gave him to me.
a. Baylee is my best friend and that’s why it’s so easy to be with her. Even though we’ve only been official for 3 months, we’ve been good friends for a year now.
2. We met at CACC and I would always sneak down to her class room. Now we spend our weekends together since she lives in Virden and gas is expensive. Though its not exactly ideal or anything but at least we still get to have time together.
III. Conclusion
A. Summary of points: In short: I’m a sassy gay musician that works at an arcade.
B. Final Appeal: I guess the goal of this speech is to learn something new about each other, and I hope you learned a little about me.
