Various things in today’s society undoubtedly attract a great deal of attention; one of those things in the most recent of news is transgender becoming more relevant or popular. With this specific topic comes plenty of controversy on things such as discrimination, laws, and most commonly the public opinion of current days society. One major issue with transgender in today’s society is discrimination. Discrimination is basically to single out an individual or group based on their race, gender, color, or sexual orientation. Whether it is a thought or action, in silence or aloud, it is still considered discrimination. This being said; Christians are known to be the number one religion to not accept transgender, for any reason. In the month of April 2015, Bruce Jenner had a sit down interview with Diane Sawyer, coming out as a transgender woman. A few months later Bruce was no longer, and was introduced as Caitlyn Jenner to the world. Jenner is an enormous symbol to the public, most importantly, to the transgender community. Jenner won the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, giving various transgender individuals the courage to keep moving forward as well. “The most important thing in life is that you are true to yourself,” Jenner said. Another example is Laverne Cox, who stars in the Netflix series “Orange is the New Black” as a transgender woman in jail, and it gives the viewers a perspective on how they are treated today. On a side note, research has shown that majority of individuals will accept someone who is transgender, however further education on the category is needed. On a poll, a majority answered “no” when asked if transgender people should be allowed to use public restrooms or dressing rooms. In todays society an individual can rarely recognize who is a transgender woman or man. With this being said, just because someone knows that an individual is transgender, they will not accept him or her, however if they did not know, it would not be considered.
