The Interview Process

The Interview Process
The purpose of this essay is to explain the assessment interview process. This essay will feature an imaginary interview involving the client and helping process. The significance of the interview process initiates effective case management and entails direction of the client's goals (Kyser, 2014).
Alyssa is a teenage adolescent girl that was brought into the Juvenile Detention Center by the police. The case manager asks Alyssa to, please fill out the form in her office, so that she can assist Alyssa. She identifies that she likes to fight other teenagers on the intake form. However, Alyssa does not discuss the current problem or issues that she is having. This interview goes from being structural to unstructured (Woodside & McClam, 2013). The Beginning of the Interview Process
The case manager using fact oriented questions are necessary. However, there may be challenges that the case manager has to experience to get Alyssa to open up. Important point the start of the interview helps to establish roles between the client and helper. For example, Alyssa could have been beaten up by the police that is why she does not want to talk. The technique that is used by the case manager in getting Alyssa to open up. Is she gives the client some time to collect her thoughts and re-approaches her. The Middle and End of the Interview Process The middle of the interview helps to give clarification of Alyssa’s eligibility for services. For example, the case manager identifies Alyssa’s strengths. She asks her what sport are you good at playing? Alyssa smiles and says she loves basketball, focusing on the client’s strengths helps her to open up more. In the closing of an interview summarizing important factors, for example, the problems Alyssa is

    Adolescence is the transition from childhood to adulthood, which lasts from about age eleven until nineteen or twenty. During adolescence, changes occur within the physical, cognitive, psychosocial and social areas. I interviewed my two roommates on if they considered their adolescence “normal”.     When conducting my second interview, from the start I felt more confidence. The material covered in class and the checklist provided was such a helpful guidance in the attempt to improve my second interview.     This is actually the first interaction with the client you have because the intake interview gives you the first glimpse into your client. According to our text “An effective initial interview is a balance between gathering information and building a therapeutic relationship” (Whiston, 2017). In Jadine’s case we learned that she is in high school, and is married her husband is joining the Marines when they finish school. He is leaving his wife and child behind so that she can continue to go to school. Jadine’s fear is is what will happen once her husband is gone, and how she will be able to handle a child, and school with only the help of her mother and her in-laws. The intake interview also helped us rule out the risk of suicide she did not send up any red flags. If she had said something like “it would be nice to go to sleep and never wake up” (Cengage Learning, 2009) that would have sent up a red flag and we would have to assess how much of a suicide risk she really is. The intake interview is unstructured which makes it an unreliable assessment that is prone to having mistakes in it so it is not valid or reliable.
