Working in the human services field there are many areas and skills that are required. It is important to understand what skills are required to be a human services worker and also what skills are required in all different agencies that have human servicer workers. They also require skills for effective crisis intervention. It is important to understand different strengths and weaknesses. Having the understanding of the different characteristics of human service workers working in a mental health agency. When working in the human service field workers will come into contact with a variety of different people who not only suffer from mental illness but have different ethical beliefs on handling it. Assess lethality and mental health status – This is where a case worker determines what severity of the client.
2. Establish rapport and engage the client – Once an assessment is complete the case worker will then try to engage with the client.
3. Identify major problems – Listen to the clients and look for key points and phrases to help determine all of the client’s issues or problems.
4. Deal with feelings – Have the client engage in releasing in bottled up emotions that they are feeling.
5. Explore alternative coping methods and partial solutions – Searching for other methods allows the case worker to find what will work for the client.
6. Develop an action plan – Creating an action or treatment plan is a way to get clients all the care they need and have them work toward goals.
7. Develop a termination and follow-up protocol – People with mental illness seek treatment depending on their diagnoses. Some may have to get services for life others just a few months. It is important to discuss with the client when the treatment will end and what they can do to
