Knowing your audience and Communication Release
On August 5, 2010, The Chilean Copper mine collapse with 33 workers confined in a 2,257 feet hole, which was the size of a mini studio apartment (msnbc.com news services, 2010). Their families, friends, and co-workers were worried frantically about their safety, and not being able to reach the miners left everyone at unease. The Rescuers and the Chilean Copper president’s came together to find a resolution as to the cause of this situation and how to rescue their employees. When speaking to the media without knowing all the facts or going based on what you heard without fully researching the situation can lead to panic and discomfort for the families and loved ones. For instance, in the situation the media publicly announced on August 26, 2010 that it would take the rescuer’s four months to rescue the miners. However, According to msnbc.com news services (2010), Health Minister Jaime Manalich said, "they would not be rescued before the Fiestas Patrai’s,” and Fiestas Patrai’s is Chile's Independence Day celebration, held on September 18. That is only forty-four days, and a big difference from 120 days. Preventing the media from misleading reports can be achieved by avoiding the media. The company should offer counseling to the families and co-workers to help deal with this situation, and provide any assistance to make this incident go smoother for them.
After the company has all the facts and knows what they are facing then have a reputable spokesperson address the media, family, friends, and co-workers with all the facts at hand. This will help all parties understand what they are in for and to start dealing with the situation at hand. Keeping the all parties informed throughout the rescue process though meetings or the media is important. Having somebody from the company to go to the miners loved ones face to face or calling them to ensure that they are well, is a great way to provide answer to the individual

Chose to go back through a couple companies that I used to work for. I chose Subway, Main St. Liquor, and Taco Bell. I chose these because I had an inside view to the OMM for all three of these companies. The OMM for Subway was a very simple one. Their main focus was on providing excellent customer service with a team effort. They have a certain prodical for making the subs, that they want you to stick with. This will keep food costs down. For example they are suppose to put only six tomatoes on one sub. They have a weight or number amount for all meats, and veggies. With weight limits that they have put in place, this has cut down on spending on veggies and meats. Which has lowered outgoing costs and helped with finding shortages of product. The employees all have their own way of putting together a sub. Just because they have their own style they still need to stay with in the protical put forth my corpriate. They have a simple POS system to keep track of transactions.…

On March 25, 1947, in Centralia, Illinois, the explosion of the Centralia #5 Mine resulted in the death of 111 hardworking men. Most of these men dedicated their lives to the Bell & Zoller Coal Company mining coal at the company’s Centralia #5 Mine. This group of men attempted on numerous occasions to get help from agencies and elected officials that were expected to protect them. The miners found this group of people completely out of touch. The agencies and elected officials wrongly thought that writing reports and having meetings would solve a problem or make it go away by itself. Others seemed unwilling to help them for fear of the loss of their own jobs or political status.…

Limited details should be released to employees, and they should be instructed to be mindful of the affected family’s privacy. Counselors should be made available to employees because these men are not only co-workers to many employees but friends as well. All employees on mining crews should be accounted for to verify that 34 is the correct number of men and one has not been overlooked. Verbal communication from Executives is crucial at this point. All staff should be notified and then based on the level of involvement in the mining crew the hierarchy of staff positions will determine the amount of information disclosed and how it is disclosed. Once the initial employee meeting is held, daily e-mail updates to employees are appropriate until rescue efforts have been…

The research question that I will be investigating is: how do the demands of the college workload affect the sleeping habits of college students? I chose this topic because I feel like it has a direct correlation to my personal experiences, as well as those of my fellow classmates. I often feel as if the demands from my college workload directly affect my ability to get an appropriate amount of sleep, and so I want to research the topic to see if other students share the same experience. I believe that when I have more work that needs to be completed, I have less of an opportunity to sleep during the night. This sentiment has been echoed by many of my classmates and friends, therefore I think that this is a common situation amongst college students. In this paper, I am going to refer to a similar study, as well as propose the most appropriate method to conduct this study, which is through survey. In addition, I will be comparing and contrasting the benefits and the drawbacks of this methodology, along with this study’s relevance to previously existing studies on this topic.…
