What I lack in organization and self-initiation, project management helps me to overcome. To a large extent, project management is about identifying something that needs to be done and breaking it down into manageable tasks so that it can get accomplished in an orderly, systematic and thorough way. Through a series of events that occurred over the last year, I came to sense the hand of God guiding me towards furthering my education beyond CCU at the Iliff School of Theology. This kind of guidance is a rare (and eerie) phenomenon for me, but it was distinct and clear. Iliff fit well with my interest in studying theology in light of postmodern culture. The grade is usually based on participation and a 20-page paper that is due at the end of the quarter – the only formal written assignment of an entire course. I know myself well enough by now to know that, if I am going to survive at Iliff, I have to work ahead. I have to start those papers at the beginning of the quarter. A 20-page paper actually has a lot in common with a mid-sized construction project. There is so much involved in being able to learn a subject, process the information, and produce a 20-page document reflecting it, that the project has to be broken down into manageable steps. With the amount of time that has passed since the bulk of my project management classes, I had forgotten more than I know about the discipline. When I started this capstone class, I had to relearn much of what Project Management entails. I downloaded Microsoft Project 2010 and dug into my old textbooks.
