E1- Social and Emotional development often underpins children’s and young people’s happiness, security and success. A starting point for this development begins in early years when the child starts to pick up their first strong relationship with their parents. These relationships are usually life-long.

These are important years in a child’s life although it is often not as easy for the carers- hence the expression ‘the terrible two’s. During the first few years of life, it is essential for children to learn that they can trust and rely on their caregivers. By being responsive and consistent, parents help children learn that they can depend on the people they are close to.
Children in these early ages also find it difficult to understand why they cannot have what they see, because they lack the concept of ownership or objects being unsafe. But as they grow older and develop rules and why they cannot have something they understand why and less questions will be asked.
