Call Me Hope was a book about a girl named Hope Marie Elliott. She was an 11 year old girl who was verbally abused by her mother.
Every time her mom would call her a mean name she wrote it down on her point system. Hope’s point system was something she did, when she felt some type of feeling, or when her mother would call her a name she would write it down and add up her points. As soon as Hope got a specific number of points she would …show more content…
get herself something. During the book Hope was growing because she would stand up for herself and take action, because she got to a point where she was really upset and she started talking to a counselor. Hope was looking forward to attending Outdoor school, but without her mom’s permission she wouldn’t be able to go. It came to the day to when a teacher was calling people out of who was going to outdoor school, and Hope was the only one called and they asked why she hadn’t gotten a signature and so she told them so. After school that day Hope begs her mom to go and sign but Mrs. Elliot didn’t want to until a teacher came and talked to her. Hope reaches a turning point after making friends with two women who run a used clothing store. They were also inspired by Anne Frank’s Diary. After meeting these two lovely ladies, Hope knows that even if her mother calls her out, she still believes in herself because of the women at the clothing store. They are kind and nice to her, and aren’t rude like Hope’s mother. After all the begging a counselor talked to Mr. Elliott who was Hope’s mother and she finally got a signature and was able to go to Outdoor school. After everything Hope went through after feeling “ Hopeless” she knew she shouldn't have worried about going to Outdoor School cause she knew her mom would’ve let her. As you can see Hope never gave up and after a hard obstacle came up she went along and passed it because she believed in herself and she knew she could do it.
The book Maus was a story of Spiegelman’s father, Vladek, and his experience as a Polish Jew during the Holocaust. Vladek is blessed with many skills and qualities on able to speak multiple languages to survive in Auschwitz, because without him knowing he wouldn’t be able to get anything or get around the city without knowing how to speak the language. Vladek's survival and the survival of all other Holocaust survivors depends upon luck. On countless occasions throughout Vladek's Holocaust moments his life is spared only by the smallest thing, the near miss bullet at the prisoner of war. I think that after that he noticed that life is short so he started becoming more aware of what could happen and how his life could’ve end. During the book it showed with comics how they treated them and stuff. In the first chapters of Maus it showed Vladek really skinny and him not eating nor getting the sleep he needed. According to that the person said he needed to be in shape for war. The theme “A person grows with each challenge he or she overcomes” goes with the book Maus because it explained the obstacles that they went through in the holocaust and what happened during, it and they just kept trying to do whatever they could to survive it. Some people didn’t survive and some others did. They survivors weren't perfectly good they were injured and still in shock.
“ I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.” - Anne Frank.
During the holocaust it wasn’t any easier for Anne. She had to go and hide with fear of being found and being sent somewhere. She was her family though so that’s all that matters. In the book it said she didn’t get to enjoy life as much like any other regular teenager, she missed out in school and being with her friends cause she was a jew. As Anne went into hiding it took a lot of courage because she wanted to be home with her friends and she had to do it anyways or she would get sent away without her family. Eventually they were found and they got sent to a concentration camp and everyone who was living with them in the Secret Annex all got sent to Auschwitz. Anne died due to have scabies and not having enough food in her body. The theme A person grows with each challenge he or she overcomes, goes with the Diary of Anne Frank because she went through so many things and it was sad to see her go through that cause we live such a good life and they were going through the most horrible things
ever. As you can see Anne didn’t get to have as much as a life as we get to today, and it was hard for her to live through that time period.
During these three holocaust books you can see that living throguh those time period isn’t that great. They went through so many things and they didn’t get anything good out of it.
