I never really had an answer when grown-ups asked me what I wanted to be when I was little. Did I want to be a Veterinarian? Maybe, animals are awesome. Teacher? I’d rather just learn. Astronaut? Only if they make space food tastier. Now I’m about to be one of many so-called “grown-ups” and I finally have the answer. I want to help people. I will help people. I am going to be a social worker.…
Therefore, my ultimate goal is to obtain a clinical license that will allow me to practice counseling. I want to make a difference in the lives of children and youth as they are the future of the world. I consider them the population of hope. As a social worker I will work hard to transform people’s lives by empowering them and making them believe in themselves, teaching them that is possible to succeed by helping them build relationships within their community. My brother is currently serving time at a state prison; he has been incarcerated for more than thirteen years; thus spending most of his precious years behind bars. I am confident that if my brother had gotten the help he needed when he started to present signs of trouble, he would have had a different life. It saddens me to think that when he comes out of prison, he will be close to forty years old. I want to work with youth in similar situations as my brother to help prevent this from happening to others, and be rewarded with the knowledge that I made a difference in the lives of others. I strongly believe that with the appropriate support, troubled youth can turn their lives around and face a more promising future than the one my brother has. I have always felt I can make a difference to help underserved and at risk…
Effective communication is to understand service user and assist them in according to that. Nothing can be done properly without a complete communication.…
My commitment and motivation to study for masters in social work is a direct result of my experience as a healthcare assistant. I am very passionate about improving lives of vulnerable people by empowering and liberating individuals to enhance their well-being. Currently, I work as a healthcare assistant in a medium and low secured mental hospital. I provide support for patients who are detained under the (1983) Mental Health Act. My role involves putting care plans into action. Example, time management, budgeting skills and also helping them improve their social skills. On a daily basis, I provide continues emotional support when service users are faced with stressful challenges. In addition, I record their health and well-being, and other…
Unless otherwise cited, the career information presented in this paper was obtained from O8Net on-line (National Center for O*Net Development, 20??). Through the O*Net assessments I received a 28 in the category of social. The social category was the highest number compared to the next high of 14 in investigative. After looking through careers in the social category I felt the need to further research mental health and substance abuse social workers. I currently work in the field of mental health and substance abuse as a crisis counselor. I had seriously thought about going back to school to get my masters in social work after talking to making social work co-workers. However there were many aspects of the job that I disliked, but I wanted…

Hello Dr. Aaron Oberman and fellow classmates. I’m excited to be taken this course because I’m almost at the finish line of completing my degree. I have been working in social services for almost 15 years helping adults meeting their needs while aiming at becoming self-sufficient. I enjoy my job, but I’m burned out, meaning my job no longer brings me the same satisfactions as it did 15 years ago. I reevaluated my life giving consideration to my age, family and happiness and decided it was time for a career change. As an undergrad student, I recall an instructor telling us in life most people will have a job and a career. Social Services is currently my job and school counseling will be my career. With age I have learned helping others…
Ever since I was in fourth grade, I have enjoyed helping kids and watching them learn new things and grow. The best feeling is helping children with something and watching their faces light up as they discover what they can do all by themselves. While in fourth and fifth grade, I was a part of the buddy program at my school which entailed spending every lunch in the special education classroom at my elementary school. A trait I possess is being sequential and that is useful for the career I want because it will help me with staying organized and grading papers. I am an analyzer, I like to know what is going on around me and love to know how things work. This is a trait that comes in handy with being an elementary school teacher.…
The field I want to enter into is CPS/Social Worker. Ever since I was just a little girl I’ve always wanted to help families in need, and help kids who need it. Being a Social Worker you can help families and kids in need. Rehabilitation and counseling and placement services for neglected and abused children and teens. To be able to get into this field you need, a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and a licence or certification is typically required for entry-level work. A master's degree is also sometimes required for licensure. I have chosen this career because I have already stated I have always wanted to help others. I feel I would be a good fit for this position because, I'm a good listener, I love to help give ideas and advice. I love seeing people smile, and hate seeing people upset. During the field I understand it's going to be hard. It's going to be hard getting to where I want to be. And it's going to be hard once I'm there. Physically and Mentally.…
I really liked reading your post. I also thought about working in a private practice setting. I think that working in a small setting, there is a lot more job security. Working in a high-populated setting means that there is a lot of competition in order to progress at work. I love competition, but I really don’t want to be in competition with about twenty-five other social workers. You have a lot of experience. I have barley even been alive for twenty years. I think that your experience will be very useful in social work. At my practicum, I work in a cubical and make dozens of phone calls a day. I rally don’t like to work in a cubical, I love doing field work, its when we visit peoples homes and actually talk to people in their settings. I…
I have worked as a nurse in Thailand for six years. I arrive in the United Kingdom to study PhD in nursing since 16th October, 2015. I do not currently hold a UK Nursing license. However, I would like to apply for a position as a social care worker (part time) as this type of work suits my skills and experience.…
A child in need, a family in crisis, an individual struggling- How will you help?…
My main interest is helping people, and I feel that becoming a social worker will allow me to do so. It will allow me to get out and meet a variety of different people and it will be challenging. By being challenged in this field I believe it will aknowledge my strengths and weaknesses and help me to become a stronger person in the field of social work. I believe that every child deserves someone who cares for them and can speak up for them when no one else will. I hope that I will be able to help people in difficult times in their lives and change them for the better.…
I've always felt the need to help others and somehow make a difference in a person’s quality of life. If you're a person like me who cannot stick to one thing, taking an education on social service worker is an excellent approach for setting a base foundation on your future career. For example, if a person who has take an education in social service were to get a job in advocating, but later realizing they're not really interested in advocating anymore, the person could switch from advocating to let's say educating, researching or even case managing. My plan is to gain the knowledge and the abilities of becoming a social service worker, and from that I can easily choose…
