Music Therapy at The College of Wooster
I chose to research music therapy because it is a unique career that would allow me to enjoy music and use the appreciation I have for music to help people. As Jodie Picoult once said “Music therapy, to me, is music performance without the ego. It’s not about entertainment as much as it’s about empathizing. If you can use music to slip past the pain and gather insight into the workings of someone else’s mind, you can begin to fix a problem.”. The purpose of this study was to examine the career field of Music Therapy , the academic prerequisites of The College of Wooster, and the postgraduate professional qualifications of this career.

One must take into consideration this is only the average income and the location of practice contributes to the earnings of a therapist. Since I would prefer to work in private practice I would need to buy my own insurance. However, seeing that it will take time and effort to earn the funding, better my skills, and gain the knowledge it takes to run a private practice I would most likely be able to benefit from the insurance and vacation days offered by my employers. After examining the housing options available to first - year students I found Andrews Hall the most appealing because of its small size, parking lot, and the access to a piano which I thought would be a useful resource for my major. Additionally, laundry facilities and a kitchen area would be available in this option. In my time at Wooster I would be able to participate in activities that I currently enjoy in high school, like concert band, marching band, and pep band. I would be able to take part in new activities as well like the Ohio Light Opera orchestra and woodwind quartets. The variety of residence areas and extra curricular activities provided by The College of Wooster would create opportunities for having fun and establishing interests outside of my classes.
On average 5,667 people apply to The College of Wooster while only 3,296 of applicants are admitted. To attend this college one must have completed the SAT or the ACT. Although there are no score requirements, 50% of accepted students who took the ACT received a score between 24 and 29. Likewise, there are no GPA requirements, but 48%
