Discription of career: Mental health counselling and youth working involves helping others. They work with people individually to help them beat their problems.
Skills and Qualifications: A career as a mental health counsellor is richly rewarding for companionate, empathetic people who want to make a significant difference in the lives of others. A youth worker should also be very caring and sensitive to others.
Finding: I learned that a mental health counsellor involves talking and listening to others patiently and attentively. A youth worker also should be very caring and sensitive to others.
Pathway 1: The course Counselling skills and youth work in the college ICHAS in Limerick draws upon a mixture of theoretical and experiential learning approaches to give learners the knowledge and skills to work in a variety of settings with youths. It is one of the leading academically based professional programmes for those wishing to pursue a career in the fields of counselling and youth work.
Entry requirements: To get into this course a minimum leaving cert grade of 280 points is required.
Pathway 2: The course Counselling Skills and Psychotherapy Studies in Limerick college ICHAS is designed to allow students to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to work within a social and therapeutic model of counselling. This course draws upon a mixture of theoretical and experiential learning approaches.
Entry Requirements: A minimum of 380 points is required for this course.
Interactions: Throughout my investigation I spoke with my lcvp teacher and she helped me see any other choices might have considered for a future career. I also interviewed a counsellor who helped me allot by giving me more knowledge.
