Career and College Research Paper Barbara Kingsolver once said “Close the door. Write with no one looking over your shoulder. Do not try to figure out what other people want to hear from you; figure out what you have to say. It is the one and only thing you have to offer” (“Pinterest”). Most people look at life as if they were typing a paper. In order to get it going first comes the hard part. The hard part is finding what career to write about. For my career, I chose to write about becoming an english double major. I chose this career mostly because I want other kids to have that one teacher that will always be there for them. This career is to help students get ready for their own life outside of high school, make lesson plans, grade work to help monitor progress, and also to help the students learn more about themselves. A person can always make a difference in another person's life but it can take so much more education, time, and understanding in order to impact someone’s life. Most jobs are in places relatable to work rooms, outside, or even in hospitals. My job will take place in a classroom, which means it is at a school. Usually some people do not want to work long …show more content…
A teacher in the state of Oklahoma can make about $54,740 a year.(Google.) I noticed that teachers in Dallas can make anywhere from $35,731 to $70,060.(Google.) There is really not that big of a difference, but teachers are one of the lowest paying jobs. There are so many classes needed to get the major, and they work so hard so it is not fair to have to spend so much money and classes just to get a low paying job. Teachers that are retired usually do not get another job. I found out that management is a teacher skill.(Google.) So any job that technically involves management a teacher can do. If they chose to do management that would be in the business world. As in business management is it possible to make $43,631 - $90,790.(“2015 Median

One career that I am interested in is an Account Executive in Advertising. Tasks for such a job include: planning ads for businesses, picking the best way to advertise, meeting with artists to plan ads and show plans to customers. Other qualities are figuring out the costs of ads, working with budgets, layouts, computers, and products being presented. To be a successful Account Executive, one must be good at organizing projects and making decisions along with getting along well with others, being creative, dealing with stress, and speaking and writing well. It is recommended that you have a 4-Year Degree. It is recommended that you sell things, speak in public, write for a newspaper, work on a market research project, or play sports leading up to the job. The salary range for such a job is $66,500 to $102,500 per year. There is occasional travel that accompanies the job. Typically, most work is done in an office. It is a medium size category and is on the decline. Another career that I am interested in is a Financial Manager. He also looks at how much money a business made previously and estimates what it will make in the future along with telling management about new tax laws and insurance changes and making reports to the government. He gives management advice on how to spend their money, and uses computers, government reports, tax forms, insurance policies, audits, calculators, and financial reports. American Sign Language (ASL) is almost a completely separate language, other than the words being used. It has its own grammar and word placement. A sentence in ASL usually will not make sense when literally translated. An interpreter must sign the subject before the action. “Talk louder do not” is the way an English speaker would say “Do not talk louder.” Just like a normal language, sign language differs in other countries based on their vernacular. ASL and SEE (Signed Exact English) are used in the United States. Juan Pablo Bonet wrote the first well-known book on the signed alphabet in 1620. In 1760, Deaf education was offered for free in a French school. In 1788, France published the first sign language dictionary. America soon caught on and offered Deaf education as well. Subsequently, the New York Institution for Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb was founded in 1818. Similar schools were created in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Kentucky, and Virginia in following years. In the 1850’s, the idea of a Deaf state was proposed to allow other Deaf people to interact within their own “kind” and not having to live up to hearing people’s expectations. It was denied. In 1890, the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) was founded. The invention of the electrical hearing aid classified some Deaf people as “hard at hearing”. Hearing aids, however, could not fix everyone’s hearing, so President Eisenhower established captioning for the Deaf around 1958. In 1965, the first “ASL Signs and Linguistics Dictionary” was published, and now it is 2013, and I hope to advance sign language further.…

Since I was a child I was never one of those kids who wanted to be a firefighter, a police officer, a doctor or even a lawyer. My careers made me stand out from the rest of the class. When the teacher asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say computer programmer or music producer. While both computer programming and music production are both time consuming and hard work, computer programming is more complex while music production requires more practice. Most of my life I’ve been trying to decide which one would I like to do more, comparing and contrasting different features in both career’s.…

Becoming a Chemistry or Physics Major, joining USC's Chemistry Graduate Student Organization once I've become a Graduate, and getting an internship at local hospitals or Podiatrist Centers, will pursue my academic interests at USC. My goal in college is to join and be a part of any organization that qualifies my major and career choice. As a matter of fact, I will not mind creating a club of my own to help support me and other students whom have a career or major choice similar to mine. Furthermore, taking Chemistry, Biology, and Physic courses is a major requirement when becoming a Podiatrist and will benefit me in numerous ways. In addition, getting internships involved with my field of choice will make a further impact on my career. In the…

High school has been an unyielding path. These four years of my high school career have had some positive and even some negative conflicts. Initially, I was very naive and I did not put much effort into school. My grades had dropped at a point where I was having some difficulty to bring them back up, mainly because I was never too strong in subjects such as math or English. But that was an issue that I had to face by worrying less and concentrating more. However, throughout these four years of high school I have improved my ability to learn and also have identified the creative and thoughtful side of me and with these skills I have given back to my community by making it cleaner and more efficient for the next generation. Thankfully, with…

The career that I have literally chosen is the automotive service technician and mechanics career. The reason why I chose this career it’s because… Well actually I have plenty and many reasons to choose from because I am very passionate about this career and I have lived through it my entire life. One reason is that Auto Mechanics is because to me it’s an interesting field to me. I decided to explore the topic a little more to get a better understanding of what it would take to become a successful automotive technician . I have lived through the auto mechanics field pretty much all through my life. Well actually since I have been born. The reason of this is very simple. That is because my very own dad is an auto mechanic himself. Well actually to be more exact, he owns his own auto mechanic shop. Since I was little I have always helped him at his work because I have always enjoyed working with vehicles. Since the very first day that I started working with him I already knew that the automotive field was the job for me. Since I was a baby my very own parents use to tell me that I would disappear out of their sight. And when they used to find me I used to be playing with the tools besides my dad helping him out. I have pretty much made my mind up about actually going further in this career. Not only because I actually enjoy doing that job but also because of the pay check that you receive. Well actually that is a bonus in it. It does matter to me the money that you earn in it but not as much as I like doing the activity of interacting and working with automobiles. I have faith in me that one day I am not only going to fix cars, but I am also going to own my own shop myself.…

Self-defeating thoughts and beliefs can delay or even prevent a person from making difficult career decisions or achieving occupational goals. However, identifying, challenging, and altering these negative ideations may allow individuals to commit to the professional development process. The Career Thoughts Inventory (CTI) was developed to assist high school and college students in selecting a profession, field of study, or employment (Thrift, Ulloa-Heath, Reardon & Peterson, 2012). Additionally, the assessment is used to support employed adults looking to reenter the job market or change their career. According to Thrift et. al, the CTI evaluates the degree to which individuals endorse off-putting vocational thoughts that impedes their occupational…
