Case for Analysis: Stressed Out at Work? Help is on the Way
Analysis Questions
1. What are the primary reasons why many employees are experiencing high levels of stress at work nowadays? Identify and describe the reasons.
As stated within the case, some motives as to why most employees experience extreme levels of stress are how the recession has remained unfavorably persistent, an intense global competition, high unemployment and demanding performance work cultures. The recession and unemployment go hand in hand, both leaving serious stress on current and past employees. While some my not fall in the unemployment category within a recession, they sure do feel the toll emotional and physically a reduction in personnel can leave behind. An adverse effect to a recession is an increase global competition, although undesired but true in my opinion it catapults a higher infused competition globally. Triggers competitors to innovate and offer cheaper things or services. Consequential, work cultures become challenging.
2. Why do many of the survivors of layoffs experience stress? Conventional wisdom would suggest that these employees should be happy that they didn 't get laid off. Explain your answer.
As the case suggests, stress remains present to “survivors” being those employees who stay within an organization and do not get laid off. Unlike conventional wisdom might assume, happiness is experienced at a minimum by most survivors. In my opinion, said survivors experience a much deeper raft from those that do get laid off. Many factors come into play and contribute to an escalation of stress on those who remain, once lay offs begin to occur. Stress triggers referenced within the case include but are not limited to both an emotional and physical margin.
On the physical aspect, a heavier work load is probably engrossed
