Company Q’s attitude towards social responsibility appears to be nonexistent, possibly through ignorance or disconcert. Either way the lack of social responsibility affects their business and community’s perception of their business. It appears that the company management has never developed and ethics program that clearly defines the corporate culture including provisions for social responsibility. Profits, or at least a lack of losses appears to be a primary motivating factor for company Q's management’s decisions. Company Q has been attempting to cut losses by closing stores that were losing money instead of finding innovative ways to increase revenues and profitability for the stores. Based on the known information, Company Q still has ample opportunity to build a socially responsible reputation within the community it serves and at the same time create profits for its shareholders. Simple and cost-effective changes could be implemented in a relatively short amount of time and the benefits to the community, employees and the company itself could be realized within a reasonable amount of time. There are at least three ways that Company Q can make a positive affect within the community that it serves while increasing revenues and profitability for shareholders.…
Corporate social responsibility has become a topic of concern for many businesses. Businesses are striving to meet sales and profit goals, yet at the same time have a positive impact on society. The reason for this is that customers, investors, employees, government agencies, and communities are all influenced by business, yet they all have the ability to influence and impact businesses as well. A company’s reputation is at stake when it comes to being socially responsible, and many companies have developed a plan that ensures they are being socially responsible while still meeting their sales/profit goals. This paper will evaluate Company Q’s current policies and attitude and make recommendations to improve them towards social responsibility and in turn increase their bottom line.…
The article, “The NYSEG Corporate Responsibility Program” (Beauchamp, T. L., Bowie, N. E., & Arnold, D. G., 2009) is a writing that addresses the social responsibility program of a major energy provider in the Northeastern United States. The article discusses the implications of a corporation that has addressed the need to be ethical and instill a corporate responsibility policy. The author attempts to present all problems and concerns that are present with a company that has decided to act in an ethical manner. The company has created a large commitment to the community. They have agreed to assist in providing services to the less fortunate. The article is clear and concise. The reader is able to understand the major issues of social responsibility that face the corporation and the costs involved. NYSEG must assess the amount of financial commitment that the company can present to Project Share. They have agreed to assist in funding but must consider the ultimate cost of lower profits to the shareholders. The firm must decide at what point social responsibility begins and social work ends.…

I believe there are a few things this corporation can do to increase their social responsibility to their community and also their own employees. The very first step is to come up with a Corporate Social Responsibility program. One that would outline and define the company’s stance on ethics, good decision making business-wise and also for their community, and give direction when hiring new employees on what the expectations are for Company Q.…
The first area that could be improved regarding the company’s attitude towards social responsibility is its reputation. “The value of a positive reputation is difficult to quantify, but it is very important. A single negative incident can influence perceptions of a corporation’s image and reputation instantly and for years afterwards” (Ferrell, Ferrell, Fraedrich, 2009, p. 18). There are many repercussions that can form from Company Q closing its stores in the higher crime rate areas, such as the loss of jobs, the rise in vacant buildings and the possibility of increased crime near those vacant structures. These effects could not only damage the company’s reputation, but it can give their customers and the community the perception that Company Q does not care for them. Additionally, by increasing the…

Corporate social responsibility started in its earliest form as philanthropy, the idea of giving back to the community in which the company is based was seen to be best fulfilled by making charitable donations and other forms of monetary giving. Social responsibility has much evolved since then and now forms of giving back to the community is shown and done in different ways. There is of course still the charitable giving, but more is given than just money. It is seen as much more benevolent thing to give charitie’s employees time and resources, rather than money. Business in the community suggests that work in the community is about building communities by creating opportunities (BITC, 2007a), thus like all corporate social responsibility issues taken on by businesses, it should be used from a strategic point of view. It is in the long-run interest of any business that the community, in which they are based, accepts them, and are happy to be working side-by-side. In using the term ‘community’ it is important to note that by this is meant all people affected by the business.…
However, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is becoming an increasingly significant category by which a company 's reputation is evaluated. A variety of social and environmental issues across a broad spectrum of industries have recently been covered in the media - all of which directly affect a company 's reputation and all of which can be considered part of the larger CSR equation. Whether CSR is considered merely the latest trend in business management or whether it is laying the foundation for a newly advanced way of doing business, a brief overview of recent business news and corporate communications shows that CSR is certainly a relevant factor for how a company positions itself in the marketplace.…
Corporate Social responsibility is one of the ways for firms to show that they care about their environment, employees and customers. Why is this important for companies to show that they care about their environment? Competition is fierce in the telecommunication market having companies like ‘Alice’ an American telecommunication company that entered the German market providing telecommunication services like Internet and phone call services at a flat rate basis and far more cheaper than Deutsche Telekom. This means that Deutsche Telekom has to put more effort in retaining its customers or attracting more customers to use their services. Therefore, a bad reputation might kill these efforts and even lead to customer migration. This paper gives an insight in the corporate social responsibility practices that firms undertake to show that they care about their environment. But what many research papers like that of Wang, (2008), failed to show whether CSR activities could help firms improve their reputation. Why should a public company like Deutsche Telekom put more efforts in CSR activities?…

With growing globalization, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) had been increasing in importance as it helped organizations to improve their relationships with local communities, increase brand value, and build a good corporate image for themselves. Responsible business normally is known as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In today’s world, most businesses are focusing on profitability ignoring all social responsibility they should contribute back. It is important for companies to gain trust from the community in return of CSR. Three major personal core values that I think a ‘responsible business’ should have are empower, professionalism and commitment. First of all, when a company able to empowering others, it can create a good working environment within employees and the company. In addition, it could bring up the company brand image and set as a foundation for success. Second core value is professionalism, where people are likely to deal with…
