Mr. Morgan has brought to our attention that the company he works for, Castle’s Family Restaurant is in need of HR assistance. This restaurant chain like many others is employed primarily by part time employees. As the operations manager, Mr. Morgan is handling all scheduling, recruiting, hiring and employee questions on his own. He does this by traveling to each of the eight locations weekly. As the operations manager, it is Mr. Morgan’s responsibility to ensure that all locations are operational; as the situation is now, he spends more time doing HR functions. This process is very costly and ineffective for many reasons. …show more content…
Mr.
Morgan is handling all payroll with an Excel spreadsheet on his computer. This process severely needs to be revamped and either out-sourced or automated. By automating or out-sourcing the payroll process, employees would be able to receive their pay via direct deposit or a check mailed to their address on file. This would free up a considerable amount of Mr. Morgan’s time. With this type of HRIS employees could clock in and out, this would all download to a system that Mr. Morgan is able to see, but that he doesn’t have to calculate all employee’s pay. This would help take out some of the risk factor of human error when determining
pay.
Automating employee files would go hand in hand with automating the payroll process. Castle’s Family Restaurant chain would benefit from using a HRIS to automate their employee files. This would enable each manager to input information for employees at their locations. With this updated system, Mr. Morgan would be able to track all employee demographics without having to travel to each location weekly. Being able to track all employee demographics from one location would help Mr. Morgan ensure that they need more or less full time employees.
Using a HRIS for payroll and employee demographics would take very little employee training. Having this system would enable Mr. Morgan to create reports for payroll, overtime, and hourly wages. This database would minimize the need for travel by more than 50%. This will save Castle’s Family Restaurant a large amount of money. The future savings by using a HRIS will offset any initial set up costs.
Overall, the use of a HRIS for payroll and employee demographics will benefit Castle’s Family Restaurant chains greatly. The ability for Mr. Morgan to maintain more of a role of operations manager, and less as the HR manager will benefit all employees. Creating and maintaining the employee database will become more of a store manager role, and less of the operations manager role. By automating payroll, employees will be able to take responsibility for their pay. Mr. Morgan should only have to travel to all the locations as needed for maintenance on the system.
