Cause And Effect Essay On Littering
First impressions are very defining. Normally people make first impressions once they see the actions of other people. Depending on what that person or group did gives people watching a bad eye. The act of littering may seen very much inconsequential, but over a period of time it creates a very obnoxious viewpoint towards the community and the people which isn't easy to wipe clean. Littering changes a person's character, concern of the environment, and people's personal sense of direction. Littering can change a person's character believe it or not. Already in this society people do not take care of their own property and responsibilities as it is then you think they are going to take responsibility for an area or place that they do not pay for or own. All, people do …show more content…
Concerns with our environment is that when we litter it makes our lands, roads, and cities look like we do not take care of ourselves and make it seem like we do not care about where we live. The city has created signs along the road that tells the people not to litter or a fine has to be added with your consequences. People litter anyways, people do not care, some even tear the sign down as a joke to show disrespect. The fine cost of littering in North Carolina is from 250 to 500 dollars just for throwing a little cigarette or a little napkin you had from eating wendys. With people not caring about the laws of littering nor the consequences of littering, this is what make the community/area overflow with litter. This results in you seeing litter in the forest, on the highways, to our cities, to our neighborhoods, and in front of our yards. Then the city has to use up more energy to higher cleanup crews for the city. Then when the cleanup crews begin they use a specific truck to pick up the trash with and that truck pollutes the air with the energy used to pick up the trash, so basically

Our environment is ever changing; some of these changes are brought bought by human behavior. The changes brought about by human behavior can be both positive and negative. Environmental cues can be explained as elements in the environment which send important information or trigger effective reactions out of individuals (Steg, 2013). In each environment there are cues that influence the relative strength of the goal to keep to social norms and to legitimate rules in general (Steg, 2013). The environmental cues serve to possibly encourage individuals to behave in a way that is positive for the environment, and engage in behaviors that promote positive environmental impact. One of the effects that environmental cues have on individual’s that is a positive effect is through the use of these cues is recycling. I agree with Mr. Trippett’s argument on the scofflaws in America. Once everyone starts disobey laws chaos will ensue. People could possibly be hurting others or polluting the earth if they don’t dispose of waste properly and the noise could be highly irritating to some. In my experience with these scofflaws around the country I have almost be in an accident myself and I have actually picked up trash after someone else didn’t dispose of it. A lot of bad occurrences can happen when more and more people skirt these minor laws. Many accidents occur around the country and most are because of speeding and texting while driving. Many people litter and some don’t dispose of certain waste material properly which could cause pollution.…

Picture an empty building with a few broken windows… if no one were to fix these windows criminals would go by and break more windows, vandalize the building, or even break into the building. Imagine walking down a pathway with trash on it… seeing this, people would have the tendency to continue to throw their trash there because it already is accumulating in the area. An easy fix to both these scenarios would be to fix the windows, and to pick up the visible trash. This therefore would not provide anyone with the opportunities and the mindset that it’s okay to litter on that pathway, or that the building is already deteriorating so it’s alright to vandalize it.…

This is probably the reason why the earth is being polluted with trash. Studies show that people litter because they do not feel responsible for public areas and that people usually litter outside of their neighborhoods where the trash becomes someone else’s problem. One example on how litter can affect the environment is that organic litter can cause water pollution and lead to algal blooms, and cigarettes could also start fires if they are not put out and then discarded in the environment. In Al Gore's speech he talks about how in 7 years the North Polar ice cap might “fall off a cliff.” This might happen in 7 years because of the Northern Hemisphere tilting away from the sun. This happened because of all the pollution and global warming we caused and because of our trash. So, people may argue and say one piece of trash on the ground doesn't really matter and that it’s okay to throw little pieces of trash on the floor but it’s not. Every little piece adds up and still causes damage on the environment. So think next time you're about to throw your candy wrapper in a nearby bush. Think about the consequences of that action and how it will affect the…
