Some say that talking on the cell phone While driving is dangerous. “Talking on the cell phone makes you 1.3 times more likely to crash than if you were a non distracted driver.” This law should not pass because a driver that is under the influence, is far more dangerous than a driver who is talking on her cell phone, yes there are fatalities when people are on their phones. there was 3,000 deaths due to the use of cellphones while driving, compared to the 10,000 deaths that drunk driving has caused in one year! Every day in America, another 28 people die as a result of drunk driving crashes. (MADD.org) Almost every 90 seconds, a person is injured in a drunk driving crash. (MADD.org) Enforcing a bigger issue such as drunk driving is what we should be focusing on instead of talking while driving. I would have a far more concern driving next to a drunk driver other than somebody that is talking on the cell phone rather than somebody who is drunk. Some people need to learn how to call and drive, some are far better than others at talking while driving. maybe we should teach this in drivers ed classes, and teach people how to be safer while driving.
“TSA’S 100 car study indicated that if a driver takes his or hers eyes off the road for more than two seconds the risk of them crashing is greatly increases the risks of crashing.” I disagree with this statement, because it may make you more likely to crash, but a lot of things distract you on the road such as the radio, food, makeup, people on the side of the road etc. Some say that driving didstracted is one of the most dangerous things that you can do, but that is wrong in my opinion, being distracted can be dangerous but compared to drunk driving or driving under the influence, being distracted is a very small problem, being distracted while driving is dangerous but in the world there are over double the fatalities as distracted driving has. We should focus more on drunk driving than distracted drivers. Also the intensity of the call matters, if you are talking on the phone and in an intense conversation you are twice as likely to crash the vehicle. But still drunk driving is a lot more dangerous than talking while driving.
There are some variations to the texting/calling while driving law that many americans are trying to enforce today that are somewhat reasonable and somewhat not. “ Turning your cell phone off and allowing calls to go to voicemail while you’re driving is key to safer driving” this quote states that you should keep your phone off at all times while driving. I disagree with the fact that i should be told when and when not i can use my phone. For example, would if it is an emergency call and it can not wait? All phone carriers (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile etc.) need to have a drivers mode setting on their phone i think, the drivers mode would work like this, if a family member or a emergency contact calls you more than once, the call will go through, but if they only call you once the call will be stopped. This is one great alternative to saving lives on the road without taking away the privilege of using your cell phone while driving. People in america will respond better to this new law instead of rebellious actions from the community. “ Letting drivers know laws will be enforced has been devoloped to enforce drunk driving, speeding, seat belts etc.” Yes, i agree that trying to enforce the cell phone law will help prevent crashes, but how do you enforce this law, by talking to the phone carriers to put a drivers mode on every cell phone in America is the best way to enforce this rule. Sometimes you need to take important phone calls while you’re in the car, that is why this law should not be enforced, there are many times in the car when you do not need to take phone calls, surf the web, text your friends while driving. Doing this kind of stuff while driving is bad and dangerous that is why many phone companies should have the drivers mode setting on their phone devices. There are many fatalities every year and texting and driving is not the main thing we need to be focusing on.

Did you know that 60% of drivers use cell phones while driving? (2011, Harris Poll) Or maybe that using a cell-phone delays a driver's reaction as much as having a blood alcohol concentration at the legal limit of .08 percent? (2009, university of Utah) After years of studies, research is finally beginning to show a new study about the effects of distractions like a cell phone while driving. How massive the consequence can be for just one text. Or maybe the lack of two hands on the steering wheel, to talk on the phone with the other. Statistics are on the rise and if action isn't taken they will continue increasing. Likely, it should be illegal for motor vehicles to use cell phone for any use while driving. Endangering other peoples' lives and the lack of focus are crucial reasons this law should be put in force.…

It can be hard to manage two things at a time. This new law can teach drivers about time management, and how to use their time wisely. Drivers will learn that they need to make time in their schedules to contact other people. Having to multitask means that the person did not manage enough time out of their day to use their cellphone. To add on to the arguments of missing important messages and being able to multitask, those not in favor of the new law assert the idea that it goes against the right to use their phones. Although, this is the complete opposite. This law teaches about the fair use of property by letting others know when to use it. If someone broke the law, their phone may be confiscated. This is to prevent any additional trouble caused by this item. Having property such as a cellphone is a privilege, not a right. You are not required to own a cellphone as your own property. To conclude my argument, cellphone use should be banned while driving. This law will prevent accidents, help manage time and teach about the correct time to use certain items. There is a time and a place for everything. Driving requires all of your focus, whether you just got your license, or have been…

New York Daily News reported “….The study showed that drivers who use cell phones to talk while behind the wheel are likely to be poor multi-taskers then those who don’t.” Cell phone use in a car has grown dramatically. Cell phone distraction makes drivers less aware of their surroundings such as pedestrians crossing the road to children getting off the school bus with a stop sign. Drivers need to be more aware of what’s going on the road instead of being on their phone jeopardizing another human’s life. Drivers should not be allowed to use cell phones while driving because talking on a cellphone while driving immediately reduces your concentration and cause car accidents.…

Over the years cellphones and driving have both seen many changes. Both of these things have had major changes most people look at all the changes as great, but if the two are put together the outcome is not so great. Studies show that car accidents involving cellphones are one of the leading causes of death of women under the age of thirty-five (Moore). More and more people are using their phones while driving; not knowing they are putting not only their own lives in danger but also the lives of other drivers. There are those few people who do not use their phones while behind the wheel, but they have probably witnessed someone else doing it. There have been many laws passed in different state making it illegal to use phones while behind the wheel. Ever been stuck at a light behind somebody who is not paying attention because of their cell phone? It's annoying right. Well that might not be a problem anymore. Many states have banned the use of hand-held devices while driving. Knowing about all the people that have been killed in accidents involving cell phones, I one-hundred percent agree with this law. Using your cell phone while driving can lead to lack of focus on the road, especially among young drivers who are not as experienced as their adult counterparts. Driving takes an extreme amount of concentration, due to the many things that could happen on the road. From cars slamming on brakes in front of you, to people cutting in and out of traffic, you need to have your undivided…

Accidents happen everyday on the road. Some are from bad weather conditions, others are because the driver is under the influence of alcohol, and many are caused by distracted drivers on their cellular phone. If people were more aware of how many people are injured or killed by someone who was using their phone while driving , then they wouldn't use their own phone while driving. If making a law that says it is illegal to use a handheld phone and drive will make people stop becoming distracted while driving, then it should be put into effect. A solution for a driver who wants to use their phone while driving would be to use the hands free option on their phone, or to purchase a tool to hold the phone while driving.…

In the state of Florida there is a legislation against using a cell phone while driving. The legislation says that while a person is texting while driving a police officer could do nothing unless you are being ticketed or stopped for another infraction. I find this law to be really scary because there are so many careless people who are driving while texting not having a care in the world who they will affect. To me, I consider driving while using the phone the same as driving while under the influence. Not only are you not focused on your driving and the people around you but youre not paying attention which are two things that can easily cause a minor accident or major accident. If a person is texting while driving and they hit someone…

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has tried to ban people from using their phones on the road. It improved pretty much better in some states. People are now used to have their phone with them anywhere they go; it’s not so easy to ban them all at once. Last year, 16 percent of the United States fatalities were made up by car accidents involving cellular phone. The year before that, in 2008, it was only 10 percent. Both of those numbers are HUGE and this what can happen when drivers engage in distractive driving while operating a cell phone. (OVER HEAD) Now why is drinking and driving illegal but not driving while using the cell phone? I’m not talking about talking on the phone while driving, because we engage in talking with passengers in our vehicles often, but driving and holding a cell phone weather its internet, texting or driving with one hand and talking with the other is extremely unsafe!…

Even though a lot of places in the United States are completely illegal to use the cellphone while a person is driving, there is still a lot of states in US where this rule is not applied, and it has been very dangerous for the drivers. Most of young people between the ages of sixteen and seventeen specially, text while driving, making them pay more attention on their phones than the road, which is not a mature attitude. Most of young drivers do not know how bad a car accident could be until they get involved into one. If a person is using the cellphone while driving, it just shows that the person is giving more attention to a electronic device, than paying attention on the street while conducting a heavy and big vehicle on movement, eventually causing an accident most of the times.…

Texting while driving has been a problem in the United States ever since texting was introduced. Many drivers think that the safety of their social lives is a higher priority than the safety of the lives around them, or even the safety of their own lives. Many states have come to the conclusion that this is a major issue and that it must be addressed, so they made it illegal to use a cell phone while driving. Passing a law forbidding the use of cell phones while driving is a good idea because it will prevent many distracted drivers from causing major accidents on the road. Distracted drivers are one of the main causes of major accidents in the United States. Because of their cell phones, they are more focused on what they're doing…

Day after day, everyone has seen a driver who texts and calls while driving. In fact, texting while driving has become an epidemic for people of all ages in the United States, and sadly, I am a part of this social issue. According to Ann McFeatters, a writer for The Scripps Howard News Serive, “The White House, learned that 6,000 people were killed last year because of distracted drivers.” This figures into a serious problem. Therefore, I do believe that no driver should be sending text messages or using phone while operating a vehicle because it distracts the driver and people die.…

Many people get hurt daily because of either them or someone else using their phone while driving. I think driving while using a handheld cell phone should be illegal. Three main reasons I think this is because sending a text while driving can cause many injuries or fatalities, having a phone in the car with someone is very distracting, and the use of a cell phone in the car with someone is not needed until they reach their destination. First texting and driving can cause a collision where not only the person at fault gets hurt, but an innocent person could possibly get hurt or even killed because of one simple text. Many people argue saying it was not their fault or it was an accident that the crash happened. Although it may have been an accident, it could have been avoided completely if that person…
