Most patients require surgical intervention eventually as a result of significant neurologic impairment. Surgical treatment of cervical disc disorders can be broadly divided into the anterior or posterior approach. Anterior approach includes anterior cervical discectomy (with or without fusion or corpectomy (if there is presence of cervical canal …show more content…
Preoperative assessment: consists of detailed history and thorough neurological examination. Every patient was evaluated with help of karnofsky score used for assessment of pain,. Post operative assessment: patients were assessed with neurological examination and karnofsky scores just after surgery and also at 6 months follow up. The study was evaluated using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test, Mann – Whitney Test and p values were calculated by SPSS statistics software. We have employed the above mentioned tests in our study for the reason that the sample size of the current study is less than 30 and the parent population should not be normal.
RESULT
Our present study was an attempt to compare the surgical outcomes of patients undergoing anterior cervical discectomy using two procedures.
The Karnofsky performance score for patients in the two groups was analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and the Mann - Whitney. The results for the test are depicted in the following tables (Table 5 to 8):
