Ruddolfo Anaya's novel Bless Me Ultima takes place in New Mexico in late 1940s. This is a story about a young boy growing up named Antonio. He is having a difficult time defending his destiny with his parents having ideas but with the help of Ultima he can do it. In Anaya's novel he uses conflict to convey the idea that destiny must be discovered by the individual, not others, or else they will be unhappy. " I will first try to reason with him. It must know that two tamper with fate are often swalled by there own confifance" (Anaya 175).
