Character Analysis: To Kill A Mocking Bird Harber Lee

Without the lessons learned in childhood we would all be lost and have no respect towards people. In To Kill a Mocking Bird Harber Lee expresses the importance of growing up by having Atticus give scout and Jim life lessons throughout the book. Throughout the book Atticus teaches his kids courage and prepares them for adulthood with lessons about how to be responsible.
Sometimes when someone has a lot on their plate overcoming it and fighting back is the best opportunity to becoming mature and growing up. Atticus gives an example when he says “It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what” (Lee 53). Courage is also expressed as sorrow when said “The full meaning of the night’s events hit me and I began crying” (lee). Having the ability to feel sadness and to be vulnerable with each other is how courage is expressed in the sad form. There are times where it’s necessary to need to cry and let it all out and being strong even through the tough time is real courage. It’s expressed how important courage is when Atticus says “I wanted you to see what real courage is instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand” (lee 120). Courage is about taking action and being the leader and not to go the easy way in life. Being able to go through something with words has a lot more to say about someone’s character than if a person takes an easy route... Scout gives up a part of her to respect Atticus when she now says “From now on I’ll be everyone less one” (lee 367). Putting other’s feeling into consideration is the root of all courage because without thinking of others everyone will have less respect for the individual. Having the mental thought to put others first to protect another person’s character is courage. Having a change of views for someone else’s sake is what courage is all
