Character is defined solely on the single individual. The choices they make, the standards they have set for themselves, and ultimately the disposition traits that they possess. The character of one person is based on their morals, personality, and cultural beliefs. Many influences come into play when the determination of one’s character is being established. Naturally there is good and bad in everyone, but the judge of someone’s character is very unpretentious. When judging someone’s character look for the qualities of values, ethics, standards, goals, ambitions, and admirable personality traits. This, after all, is what builds one’s character.
Everyone’s character is shaped by different things. Many people shape their character around the basis that they were raised. Some may have had their character shaped by situations that they have dealt with, and when they dealt with it, how they came out as a person. For example, when I was in the third grade my mother passed away. Little did I know that at the time that was something that would change my life drastically and ultimately shape the character I have today. With the death of my mother, my dad became a serious alcoholic. He wasn’t the same person. So basically when I lost her I lost my dad too. Only about a year after I lost my mom; my dad got a girlfriend. This was the time that the serious development of my character came into play. He and his girlfriend would leave my little siblings and I pad locked in the house for weeks without food or any source of communication. There would be times when I had to feed myself and my brother and sister for a week with only five dollars. They needed me and I had to be strong for them; all at the age of eleven. After a few years of that lifestyle; my dad suffered from a brain aneurism and had a stroke. He was in a coma from six months. The whole time he was in the coma; my siblings and I were thrown from house to house. We were at a loss, but again it was up to
