Admissions Essay: Passion And Community Service
When most people think of character they often associate it with the idea of having to do the right thing. I on the other hand believe character is more than just doing what is morally righteous. Our experiences, obstacles and most importantly, passion define our true character. Passion establishes the difference between obligation or choice and giving up or persevering. Our actions result from the passion we choose to dedicate towards different aspects of our lives including school, work, extracurricular activities and community service. Everyone values these aspects differently and that is what allows for each of us to have our own unique character. I believe people have a more powerful influence when they have a true sense of passion for what they are doing.

The dedication I have shown to each of these aspects of my life is a reflection of my good character. My desire to succeed both in and out of the classroom has driven me to earn high grades, become a leader and give back to my community. In the past I have received constructive criticism for mostly engaging in activities that relate to my involvement with track & field. I believe my community service is misunderstood. It has been my choice to participate in the community service activities listed in my application. I chose to become a youth coach for the Little Feet Running Program and volunteer for local races and modified track & field meets because I feel I have more to offer to my community when participating in activities I can easily relate to. My passion for track and field has allowed me to establish strong relationships with

My character has always been an important concept within my life. This is because character is comprised of honesty, selflessness, and compassion. No matter what the situation is, it has always been imperative to me to be honest with not just those around me, but with myself. For example, I once noticed that an instructor had given me a higher grade than I deserved on a quiz, I never hesitated to report the mistake and made sure that my work was graded…

Character in the Webster’s dictionary is defined as the way someone thinks, feels, and behaves: someone’s personality. Character is the main component in each and every and every living being here on earth. Your character is what can make you or break you. It can carry you to success or take you straight to failure. Because character is so important, JROTC instructors try their best to instill certain morals and values that will give us a character that will take us to success. For example, by making us stand at the position of attention and if we move we have to do push-ups teaches us discipline which is well-needed in any work field. Good character is paramount to induce sound judgment and fundamental leadership aptitude. Therefore after lessons about good character, lessons about leadership skills come next.…

This is Tammy Ngo, and I know that you are very busy and have a lot of things on your plate but I have been inquiring about my badge for the last one and a half week without result. I had tried to attend to this matter in a timely matter in order to reduce the trouble it might cause everyone. I do admit that it was initially my fault in losing the badge and missing my shift on 1/16 (the day after I lost my badge and found it missing). I had tried my best to reach you through emails and phone calls to the volunteer office when on 1/19, you told me that my badge would be ready for me in front of the office by Saturday; which was the day of my next shift. Since I was expecting my badge by my next shift, I did not reschedule any of my future shift on the assumption that the matter will be resolved.…

Character is mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Aristotle believed character to be neither a feeling or a capacity or a mere tendency to act in certain ways (Sommers & Sommers, 2010). He believed instead that character was a settled condition we are in when we are well off in relation to our feelings and our actions. The virtues of character are dispositions to act in a certain way in response to similar situations. Good conduct arises from habits that in turn can only be acquired by repeated action and correction.…

From one person to the next you have probably heard you’re so pretty, you’re very intelligent, and you’re the funniest person I have ever met. It is precisely understood what all of these compliments are saying, but when someone pays you the highest compliment of having good character how do you process the actual meaning? What sort of actions do you take that shows you have good character and are sincere to others. Many factors can go into an individual having good character but those factors can also be very different from one person to another. When I think about someone with good character I think of a person who is, both in public and private, candid from deep within without expecting others to reciprocate the same actions unto him/herself. It is a person who gives willingly time after time and day after day and knows that even if his/her good deeds goes unacknowledged at that moment a blessing will surely still come their way. You will go with your needs unmet in order to please others and display fairness. Many people may associate this action with being gullible but it’s just a way that separates people who do what is right all the time from people who do what is right some of the time. An individual with good character doesn’t just cut it on and off for certain people and wait for others to do for them before they do for others; they are twenty four hours and seven days a week good to others in the light and behind closed doors. Normally good character people can be recognized by other sincere people and even by the not so sincere people. If someone inflicts harm or verbal abuse upon you and you don’t go out of your way to get that person back with the same actions, I consider that good character. If it doesn’t upset you that someone takes longer to do something for you than it takes for you to do for them then that is good character. When you still come to aid a person regardless of how they have treated you and you can put it in the past…

Last Saturday I went to a class that taught me how the build my character and my self esteem. In this class I learned about the six pillars of character which are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Trustworthiness is basically just being honest, be reliable, be loyal, don’t deceive, cheat or steal. All its saying is to have the courage to do the right thing. Respect is something that you have to give before you can get it. So to be respectful you have to always use good manners, never use bad language, and just be considerate of others feelings not just yours. Another pillar of character is fairness. When your responsible and you make decisions you must be accountable for that decision weather the choice you made is right or wrong. The last pillar of character is citizenship which is doing your share to make your school and community a better place. When you have citizenship you cooperate, always be a good neighbor, obey all of the laws and rules of society, respect authority, and protect your environment. Responsibility is one thing you have to earn and isn"tmt just given to you. When you"tmre fair you always play by the rules, take turns, share, be open minded and listen to what other people have to say. Caring is another important part of character, because when you"tmre caring you"tmre kind, you express gratitude, forgive others, help people in need, you"tmre compassionate and show others that you care. The six pillars of character can be be achieved by any who wants it, but in order to achieve this goal a person may have to change the way they live their life a little but that"tms a small price to pay for such a big reward you"tmll earn in the end. With responsibility you do what your suppose to do, use self control, and be self- disciplined. Another to make sure that you are fair is to make sure you don"tmt take advantage of others, and that when something goes wrong not to blame others…

I believe that there are three main components of character: Respect, Honesty, and Loyalty. These three words have a deeper meaning in all aspects of life than just the definition. When you are a role model or a leader, your honest opinion is important and will lead you to a point where you believe that what you do is right. The righteous thing is an aspect of life that not all people understand and those who do leave a legacy. By creating that clothing drive in my first year of middle school, the administrators will recognize that the person who came up with the idea was a dedicated student who showed respect, loyalty, and honesty, which are what I believe to be important. Respect is the second aspect shown in my everyday life. As a sister, I listen to what my siblings have to say and as a student; I am always willing to change the actions that I perform because it might result in a beneficial change. In lacrosse and volleyball, I had an open mindset and always listen to the coaches’ suggestions exemplifying respect. While in classes or any situation, it is important for me to listen to directions and to always complete my homework. Honesty and respect also motivate my learning and passion resulting in wonderful grades. Loyalty is another aspect that is important to live by. Friends have a huge impact on our lives simply since we scientifically are…

Your character is the real you. Character is the complex of mental and ethical traits making a person or is said to be the stable and distinctive qualities built into an individual’s life which determine his or her response regardless of circumstances. Everyone has character; it transcends race, religion, education, position, age, gender and personality. No wonder, Abraham Lincoln said: ‘reputation is the shadow. Character is not just what we try to display for others to see, it is who we are even when no one is watching.’ Good character is doing the right thing because it is right to do what is right. So, in order to make character, there is need for the formation of character.…
