Below is a free essay on "A Good Person" from Anti Essays, your source for free research papers, essays, and term paper examples.

Either be good, or be good at it. Yet, how can you be a good person, if you can rarely be good. Most persons say they are good people if you were to ask them, but honestly most are nowhere near good. If one wishes to be of good character it takes intelligence, good character traits, and lots of heart. A good person must learn how to develop goodness on the inside before it can be expressed on the out.
Are you intelligent? Do you know what intelligent is or what it takes for one to be intelligent? Most people believe intelligent is being perfectly smart, but that is not always true. An intelligent character does not always stand to mean they are perfectly smart, but it can stand to mean they do smart things. Not only that an intelligent character always thinks before they act and does not rush into things. In another sense you wouldn’t find an intelligent person going through an unsecure door. A character’s intelligence can come naturally as a mental instinct in difficult situations.
There are many character traits one can posses all at once. Important traits that would be in the description of a good character include responsibility, integrity, respect, and many other prospects. Character traits fully describe a character as a whole. This is also what develops a good character. All of these traits put together in one can create a good person like no other, yet all of the traits acting alone can help develop one another. Take responsibility for example by doing what you are supposed to and remembering important things for yourself as well as others it gains respect from others to you as well as you gradually learning to give respect back.
Having a big heart can also play a very important role in being a great person. If someone has a heart this means that they will exceed the limit or go out of their way to do something

“Character is a set of behavior traits that define what sort of person you are. Your moral or ethical qualities if you like – qualities of honesty, courage, integrity, trustworthiness, respectfulness, responsibility, caring and compassion. People judge your personal character by their perception of how you respond to challenges. Someone who perseveres in the face of adversity and works persistently to complete a task or sees something through is generally thought to be someone of good character.” Once wrote Karon Graham.…

When most people think of character they often associate it with the idea of having to do the right thing. I on the other hand believe character is more than just doing what is morally righteous. Our experiences, obstacles and most importantly, passion define our true character. Passion establishes the difference between obligation or choice and giving up or persevering. Our actions result from the passion we choose to dedicate towards different aspects of our lives including school, work, extracurricular activities and community service. Everyone values these aspects differently and that is what allows for each of us to have our own unique character. I believe people have a more powerful influence when they have a true sense of passion for what they are doing.…

Having character is being trustworthy, honest, empathetic and respectful. This means doing the right thing even when nobody's watching. I always search for the best in everyone because no one is perfect and we all have made poor decisions in our lifetime. I take responsibilities in my actions and others I am responsible for. It is difficult for me to admit that I am wrong but I still do because it is the right thing to do. I have had a friend who was suffering from depression and wanted to harm themselves. I was scared for them because depression is a disease and it is not their fault that they are like that. I had them speak to an adult and they are currently recovering. I was very scared that she had cut marks on her wrist because it could have gotten worst. I cried because I did not want to lose a friend. On a field trip, I found a five dollar bill on the pavement. I asked the first adult I saw who was slightly ahead of me if it was hers. She said that it must have dropped out of her purse when she was walking. The teacher was really surprised because she said I could have easily kept it for myself. I would feel bad if I took someone else’s money even if it was just lying…

Moral issues and the desire of becoming a moral person have dominated society for millennia. Humans have taken varied approaches in a desperate attempt of answering questions such as “what is the right thing to do?” and “is there a code of morals that all humans should follow?” Determining one’s morality is an integral stage in becoming an intelligent and worldly person. Often, the characteristics that define the degree of morality of any person (such as trustworthiness, reliability, and kindness) are dubbed “virtues”. These manifestations of morality are extremely relevant when evaluating one’s moral character. There exist no matters more crucial in human development and maintenance than deciding what makes a good person. This incredibly…

Nonetheless, each person shares similar traits and qualities that define good or bad. My impression of a truly good person is someone who makes the best of every situation, shows kindness to all people and smiles. There are positives and negatives in every situation we are in. A truly good person will focus on the positive situations and try to improve the negatives. There are some people in this world that we will never find common ground with. That as it may, a good person is kind even to the people they don’t relate to. Finally, I believe that a truly good person walks around with a smile on their face. A smile can simply light up the room and bring a little joy to someone’s day. My impression of a not so good person is someone who is a victimizer, offender and negative. I pertain to a victimizer as someone who cheats others. Cheats them out of games, materials, and deals. Anyone who is considered an offender is a bad person in society and constitutionally. You don’t find too many good people breaking the law all the time. Lastly, I believe that a not so good person brings negativity wherever they go. When negative people walk into a room, they bring attitudes down and make people feel uncomfortable. This is why I think a truly good person shares a smile. A simple smile can change more than people…

Abraham Lincoln once said, “Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree.” This quote explains that our character is more than just what others may think of us, but it is who we are when nobody's watching. This means that having a good character is more than just being good around others, but being good because it is the right thing to do. I believe that to have a good character you must stay positive and always do the right thing. Throughout my life, I have gone through situations that have challenged my character. I went through periods where I wasn’t the best version of myself and I’ve gone through periods where I was better than I imagined I could be. This year is one of the good ones. I’ve learned that keeping a positive attitude not…

Some claim that Buddhism cannot encourage one to be good, because then you would become attached to goodness. Is it not better to find a middle ground where one does enough good that there cannot be criticism of this action? Buddhist many find that even this middle ground is not enough for their spiritual enlightenment. It may be that as one works on improving themselves through good, a natural process of compassion for others may develop.…

First, they are aware that they are held to a high standard. “When people are looking up to you for direction or a reaction, you have to stop and ask yourself how you feel about the situation and decide how you are going to show it,” she said. We agreed in our interview to call this step a personal time out. Second, they have to decide if they are disappointed in the situation or disappointed in the person. She continued by explaining, “To distinguish between the two you have to process if the person put in effort, did the person try, are they being honest. As a leader, did you give them something that is too big to manage?” Kelsey believes that when you work with a person of good character you are rarely disappointed with the person, but instead you are disappointed with the situation and the outcome. Third, be flexible. She defined flexible as the ability not to crater. If people are flexible than they won’t be intimidated by change. Finally, they cannot compare their selves to other people. I agreed when she said, “It is important to connect with people who understand you, appreciate you, and support what you want.”…

We can never be perfect, but we can strive to be. Imagine a world surrounded by individuals continuously pursuing goodness. Not just for the sake of themselves, but also for others, and primarily God. Pursuing a life of goodness only for the purpose of oneself alone is not enough and never will be. Living for yourself and/or for others alone will always fail you because the happiness is only temporary and also empty. Living for God is the opposite. Once you live for Him you learn the reason we should be good is to honor and please Him because we love Him. You realize we are to represent Christ through our lives and goodness does just that. You learn God also calls us to love our neighbors and by being good we are doing so. While there are many other benefits of being good, these are the most valuable reasons to pursue goodness in…

    Good or Bad?

There are many ways people can be depicted as being “good”. One of those ways would be someone doing a courageous act in the face of adversity. For example, when the Pilgrims came to the United States, they had no idea what they were getting themselves into. Many things could’ve happened to them when they came here, but they came here anyways. Another could be the soldiers, from the Army to the Marines to the Air Force to the Navy; they all serve a special purpose in the world. While risking their lives, they are saving ours and protecting our country. Firemen and Police have an abundance of courage saving our lives as well as soldiers. They are all out in the world trying to save our lives. Sometimes you may not want to be good or act that way, but it is always the right thing to do.…
