Cheerio Reflection
Cheerio: Be Happy, Be Healthy was nothing less than an amazing experience. I am very grateful that we as a class came together and developed a service learning project for young children on our very own campus. I feel as though we had an incredible president Devin that led the way for us. In the beginning, there was a lot of confusion and too many opinions on what to do and how to do it. Devin came in with a plan that accommodated everyone needs and wants for the project. The morning of everyone met at the Family Service Child Development Center and was ready to begin our project. We as a group made a decision to have the children rotate from class to class and finish off in the hallway in an obstacle course. At the end, the children were given a goody bag for their participation. The children had the biggest smiles on their faces. I enjoyed watching the children compete and help each other out during the obstacle course. The director at the center gave us a complement and said we were very professional. Our goal for the project was to promote …show more content…
Being touched in any way that makes you uncomfortable is not ok under any circumstances. After my experience, am an advocate for sexual assault and rape victims Being an advocate is more than just supporting a group. To be an advocate you have to be strong, bold, and stand for what you believe in. One cannot say they are an advocate for something and not inform others of the social justice issue. Young girls fall victim to sexual assault and rape more often, which is very sad. I could not imagine if I had not told my family what was going on how far thing would have gone. I too could have been a victim of rape. Just as I had done many girls do not take a person’s actions towards them with seriousness as one should. Girls should feel more willing to come out about sexual assaults and rape to prevent the person from having another

    1. Col. Robert Shaw: In glory, Col. Robert Shaw can be seen as the abolitionist for several reasons. The opening prologue to Romeo and Juliet is heavily shaped by the context of the Elizabethan period. The Elizabethan era was a truly religious time in England where astrology and supernatural beliefs controlled the way a person was treated if they had medical issues. The people of the era believed in a specific hierarchy; this was known as the Great Chain of Being. It is believed that God was the ruler of everything followed by angels and arch angels, humans, animals, plants and minerals. The prologue of Romeo and Juliet is written in sonnet form which created a contemporary feel to the play. Shakespeare's sonnets were popular among the English of the time period and they came to watch his plays in the Globe Theatre. His prologue in Romeo and Juliet is influenced by the history and beliefs of England at the time.…

It was amazing to see the creativity and the imagination of the children even when they do not have much of language. Children aged between 15 -24 month olds were putting the popsicle sticks into and around different sized jars and containers. This child went and got some lego blocks, put in popsicle sticks into the block and pretended that to be ice cream tray with ice cream. I was really amazed with his imagination. The other children also joined him in for the ice cream party.…

According to www.drugabuse.gov, it is estimated that fifty two million people with at least twenty percent being twelve or older, have used prescription drugs for nonmedical reasons at least once in their lifetimes. Some of the more commonly known drugs include Adderall, prescription painkillers and Xanax. These are the medications I will be researching and informing about, but there are definitely a lot more than three. Many people are prescribed and use these drugs as directed by a professional, but many also don’t. Adolescents often share or sell their medications to those who are not prescribed, and have no other way of receiving them. Constant misuse can lead to many health problems, and in extreme cases even death. Besides the abuse,…

Rape survivors who speak out about their assault experience are often punished for doing so. They are subjected to negative reactions from support providers. These negative reactions may thereby serve a silencing function, leading some rape survivors to stop talking about their experiences to anyone at all. For example, Courtney Ahrens (2006) examined the impact of negative social reactions on the disclosure of rape. The study focused on the qualitative narratives of eight rape survivors who initially disclosed the assault but then stopped disclosing for a significant period of time. The results of the study revealed that negative reactions from professionals led survivors to question whether future disclosures would be effective, negative…

After snack time it was naptime. During naptime I continued to talk with the teachers and I learned more about what it meant to be a teacher. We talked about how some people viewed teaching p-k and kindergartener as babysitting when in fact it’s the exact opposite It opened my eyes because I learned that you really have to be energetic and watch the kids closely do to their age. Once the children woke up from their cute nappy time, they played again for 15-20 minutes to fully wake up and afterwards have lunch. After lunch, they reflected on what they did that day and went to recess until their parents picked them up at 2:30.…

Week six was another amazing week that brought new experiences to my plate. On Wednesday evening, my clinical instructor and I ran Sr. Barn Buddies. This is a group of six teenagers that have autism. These individuals are great, but need help with appropriate social interactions and some personal care. Four boys and two girls attend the one and a half hour session every Wednesday evening. I was not really sure how to feel about doing this session because some of them can have behaviors and they are twice my size. These kids were awesome! They each seem to be somewhere different on the spectrum and all have something to offer to one another. These kids need help with socializing with each other, when they are at school or in the community. We worked on a project together, making sail boats that we could have a discussion about. If one of them needed help with part of it, they had to ask nicely. They could ask Duane or myself for help or ask one another for help. It was pretty neat to see them ask questions, offer advice and for myself to witness the positive interaction throughout the evening.…

    Essay On Date Rape

    • 419 Words
    • 2 Pages

It could be hard to come forth once you are raped; the victim may feel helpless because they encouraged the rapist in not knowing their capabilities. Date rape is not just a woman being reluctant to let a man into her privacy but however, it could easily be a husband or boyfriend forcing their spouse to engage in sexual activity whether that is with a weapon, etc. Luckily, many states have now incorporated the feminist view into their legal system, replacing legal charge of rape with criminal sexual assault (Henslin, 2013). Women should not feel afraid to come forth when they have been assaulted and if most victims would, it would help protect the rest of us who have not been victimized by getting that scum off our streets and away from our…

There are three kinds of stranger rape: a blitz sexual assault in which the victim has not previously interacted the perpetrator and is quickly and brutally assaulted, usually in public and after dark; a home invasion sexual assault where a stranger forces entry into the victim’s home and commits the assault; and contact sexual assault where the perpetrator makes contact the victim and tries to acquire some level of trust by flirting, coaxing the victim, or trying in any number of ways to pressure or manipulate the victim into a position in which the perpetrator can sexually assault them. Acquaintance rape, also known as date rape, occurs when the rape is committed by somebody the victim knows, whether it is a date, a classmate, a neighbor, a friend, a friend’s significant other, or any other person. There is a common and incorrect belief that being raped by someone you know is not as legitimate, criminal, or traumatic as being raped by a stranger. Sometimes, people even say it isn’t “real” rape. These are all misconceptions. Acquaintance rape is just as serious as stranger rape, and has effects that are just as devastating, if not more so, because many of the people raped by an acquaintance have a harder time believing that they were actually raped. Instead of blaming the rapist, they often blame themselves. A large number of rape victims don’t report rape or sexual assaults, and are even less likely to report this…
